An outsider's look inside Guild Wars 2

Mar 26th 2012 10:33AM (Massively)
Combat is fast paced & yes you can rebind keys.

DUST 514 will be F2P and free to download

That's not true at all. Cosmetic items are by far the highest purchased items in cash shops. Games that offer power advantages in the cash shop often fail bc of it. And yes, saving time is a power advantage. If you can't see that, I'm not going to get through to you anyway...

He contradicted himself. If you can pay to save time you ARE getting an unfair advantage over others. CCP logic strikes again!

The Daily Grind: How do you like to move it move it?

Mar 3rd 2012 8:48AM (Massively)
Click to move in Guild Wars is basically a convenience option. Everyone uses WSAD. It's still nice to have click to move so I can continue adventuring with a pizza in one hand.

It was also a convenient path finding tool. If it wasn't immediately apparent how to get to somewhere I could see off in the distance, I can simply click the terrain and the game navigates you there.

Pretty cool for secondary movement, imo.

The Daily Grind: What MMO have you recently deleted from your hard drive?

Dissapointed with SWTOR. Took that off and finally removed Eve Online.

I've still got Tera (so-so), Guild Wars and LotRO installed. Keeping LotRO mostly bc of the Warden class. Awesome class design, so fun ^^

The Daily Grind: Are you playing GW in anticipation of GW2?

Feb 28th 2012 8:52AM (Massively)
Because I've spent 10,000+ hours in GW1, I've had the HoM at 50/50 for a long time. Much of my time has been spent helping new players on their HoM. My advice to players is to get 7 good heroes asap. Level up to 10 in Nightfall and head to Eye of the North after getting the first couple Nightfall heroes.

Eye of the North is the most rewarding and relevant to GW2. It is also leaps and bounds more exciting than Prophecies, which has aged. You can always go back to experience the story once you have lots of skills unlocked. The main joy factor in GW is skill experimentation. The ppl who dont "get it" will never enjoy it. Hope that helps.

The article also says they chose to have ArenaNet HQ in Seattle because it was "away from Blizzard". This guy is full of b.s.

Mike O'Brien discusses the business of ArenaNet

"O'Brien is confident the game will overtake World of Warcraft"

I guarantee you O'Brien never said that directly. He's been asked many times & his answer is always something like "we don't see them as direct competition, we have a non-subscription game".

The Daily Grind: Would you be as excited for Guild Wars 2 if it were a subscription game?

Jul 6th 2011 2:40PM (Massively)
Hell yea I would still play it. But the fact that ArenaNet has held to their honest business model only makes me love the series more and more. I'd be damned disappointed if they went sub, but I'd still buy it.

Flameseeker Chronicles: Why you need to play Guild Wars right now

Jun 27th 2011 10:43PM (Massively)
Too much hate & drama in these comments. I, for one, am grateful that Guild Wars 2 is a different game. I welcome that GW2 is trying to be its own game and doesn't need to copy a formula to be considered successful.

It gives gamers more variety... and that is a win in my book. No matter if you like the game or not.
