The Daily Grind: Is your glass half empty or half full?

Oct 14th 2011 9:19AM (Massively)
I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to minor issues, but when something actually stops me playing or progressing in any meaningful way then I start losing my favor for the developers. What really strikes me as odd is games having some times extensive stress testing sessions pre release then still having extreme lag, latency and rubberbanding post release. It really doesn't do anything for your faith in the guys in charge when they can't even properly test the right things in said phases.

THQ releases flood of new details for Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online

@Wispur Yes this is very worrying. I could imagine the Orks being tricked into fighting the Imperium but they would not openly ally with Chaos. This sounds like there will be some flimsy lore point to explain how the Orks suddenly dont like fighting Chaos humies' and the Elder have a whole new respect for the Imperium.. also a flying pig unit will be introduced in the next notes ;)

@Grumms If they somehow mess this franchise up, an exterminatus will be the least of their problems ;)

BioWare hopes SWTOR lasts for decades

As long as they don't start making furture expansion and patch content lighter in story then the depth they will release with, I think this game could last a good few years. The story based MMO is the one and only defining feature this game brings to the table that other MMO's haven't really done at all, at least not to this level.

@Sorithal You will never get a game that doesn't have children playing it. Even in games which garner an 18 plus rating somehow still pull kiddies in. I don't mind that in so much as they don't bother me or ruin my experience.

@Fabius Bile Pre-order sales and eventual success have no correlation what so ever. If half year to a year down the line, they still have the majority of pre-orders playing then I will lend some credance to this statement.

I'm just hoping for a good in game community, regardless of numbers.

@Trenyt I stand corrected on further digging around I came across this:

'The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural: 111 pages of notes and sketches by the revered Jedi Master from the early years of the Great Hyperspace War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. Features never-before-seen artwork and all-new information.'

@ishi13 I was a bit perturbed that there was no art book stipulated in the collectors edition. I do like looking all all the concept art regarding a game. That said the items they have put in there are reasonably nice, but are they worth 100 british sterling, that is the question.

The Daily Grind: What Star Wars Galaxies features will you miss the most?

Non combat classes, something I have yet to see in any game since. Yes some people prefer to avoid combat and roleplay in their roleplaying games! Trader, Musician, Dancer just as valid as any gun or saber wielding profession.

Player built communities. Most MMO's don't have communities, and by communities I don't mean typing on a forum. I mean meaningful interaction and making something together in a game that can stand the test of time. Player built towns and malls were a step ahead of anything else the genre had seen and nothing has compared since!

Crafting system. Immense is the word for this. No clone crafting where everyone can make the exact same article as every other random joe who decided to pick up a tool. If you wanted to be the best crafter out there who brought in the most profit you had to get the best materials mined from various planets, have the best tools and best stat boosters. It took hard work, grafting and spirit to get to the lofty heights to call yourself a master crafter. MMO's these days are just ridiculous on the crafting front compared to what SoE brought to the table.
