Ask Massively: Further answers to the same questions edition

also, I created a new account called "Deliverator" because I'm phasing out the email that this account is under, can't change it in my profile and don't want to have notifications routed all over gmail through old accounts. So if you decide to take me up on that, look at Deliverator instead.

LOL - I'm with you there. Just trying to be funny... maybe something I shouldn't attempt :) No malice or even real nitpicking intended!

Do you seriously have to do all that yourself? Maybe you could put together a short-list of accounts you can watch for reporting spam - though sometimes my comments may come across a little opinionated or harsh I love the site and can guarantee that if I hit the "!" it's because it was spam. I've never even hit it when someone was having an obnoxious swearing meltdown. Space Cobra, Ehra, Neverdeath, Utaka, Graill440 are other guys I can think of that are around a lot - I don't always agree with them, but they seem like people who wouldn't steer you wrong, especially if you let them know you were watching their "!"s for Nike sales up front. Just an idea!

The Daily Grind: What's the fastest you've ever burned out on an MMO?

@Graill440
either that or they write it because 'burnout' has been used for at least two decades to describe everything from tired out athletes to hating PB&J because you ate it every day for a year.
Per http://goo.gl/Qej2p I guess they could be asking "What's the fastest you've ever suffered the reduction of a fuel or substance to nothing through use or combustion on an MMO," but I'm going with the PB&J thing.

I think it has to do with how long a game can cover up the same old mechanics and how high they hyped the fans hopes that they were truly different. Rift burnout for me happened shortly after I figured out that the 'dynamic' events in the world would always keep happening in the same places. Riding with a thundering herd of turtles was fun for a couple of nights, but then it was quest hub to rift to quest hub clearing areas that reset 2 minutes after you went through.
I have a lot of friends who play WoW and I've tried to get into it on several occasions. Got bored of LotRO, didn't log into swtor yesterday. I like the Smuggler's combat more than most MMO combat, but seeing the game lay itself out as quest-hub/map unlocking and playing the space combat really crushed my excitement.
I got sick of EQ and EQ2 pretty quickly too, but I'm currently checking out the Dungeon Creator and it's pretty cool. I'm down with choosing my own areas to grind if it's because I can go in and bring specific things back to add to my own little world to present to other players.
I guess I always assumed that it was more the MMO combat that wore thin for me because it didn't engage enough of me to "feel" like I was fighting, but it may actually be that same old quest hub game-mechanic. Seems like when it pokes through the immersion, I'm done.

I guess you can't expect to put a Ferrari body on a Fiero and expect it to feel any better than a poorly weighted Fiero.

My vote is Blue Monster, but that's been discussed to death.
It's 8:30 here and an ad for fashion-long has been up there for an hour and a half. The spam posts have gotten pretty prevalent lately and I was just thinking it'd look a lot cleaner around here if the mods could kill spam as fast as they pull Jef Reahard's comments.lol.

I disagree-

Class quest, quest hub, clear area
is the content

10 New Planet
20 Class quest, quest hub, clear area, return
30 Class quest pt2, quest hub pt2, clear area pt2, return
40 Class quest pt3, quest hub pt3, clear area pt3, return,
50 goto 10
is repeating the same content.

The contents of the game is what you play. Playing means to "do" or "interact"
Set, setting and backstory are what the content is set against. You don't "play" the movies, you passively watch them. The content in SWTOR is mind numbingly repetitive with very little interactivity.

If you took out everything you can't interact with in SWTOR, the actual game you're left with involves valleys surrounded by mountians, elevator switches, taxis, doors and mobs. No puzzles, no risk, no losing and you'll eventually save the universe even if you don't want to.

Gamer drops $16,000 on Age of Wulin virtual sword

I wonder how we'd feel if the story were framed like this.

"Age of Wulin rewarding private investors with unique in-game items"

Spin, it's bad for the brain
