Leaderboard: Ultima Online vs. EverQuest vs. Asheron's Call

Apr 2nd 2012 2:48PM (Massively)
Aww, EQ easily hands down. I never played the other two. I first picked up EQ with my Ex while we were coming down from Canada, both of us were so excited about it. I just had this convo with a friend the other day. EQ will always hold a special place in my heart, and several times I wish I could go back to the time I picked it up around the PoP time. The game was just so big and scary and new and when I walked through the forest with the skeletons I felt like I was actually there, and also very much in danger.

Defiance beefs up its TV cast with big-name stars

You know, a lot of people on here dislike SyFy I've noticed. I on the other hand really enjoy the channel. I never got into Rift, but I like their idea's for event game play. I really miss the days of EQ where GM's would get on and do fun event related stuff. Rifts constant stream of content and world events makes me take a closer look at this title, and I think if this is done well, and possibly even done very well, this is where I see gaming entertainment going in the future. I'm positively psyched for this, all you angry haters of everything be damned!

The Guild Counsel: Stop yelling!

Feb 23rd 2012 8:57PM (Massively)
I used to be the raid leader of a guild in WoW. My guild's been around for a bit now, about 4 years and we've actually only finished 1 raid to the end boss. That was Naxxrammas 10 when it first came out. We went onto Ulduar and about halfway through our Ulduar progression I decided I'd had enough raid leading responsibilities, so I passed them onto another person I believed could handle it. He knew the fights well, and had co-lead with me on some of the tougher fights where we needed to micromanage.

My guild hasn't had a final boss raid kill since. Now don't get me wrong, he knew what he was doing, he could get us through fights. Same goes for all the other raid leads we've had since I passed it on. None of them could get us to down the last boss.

My theory on why this is the case has basically been summed up in this article to the point. The raid leads after me didn't have the right attitude. When we'd wipe you'd hear them sigh, or call out " That's a wipe! " " Wipe it up guys, let's get back in. " and you could hear the frustration and disappointment. Not to mention when they would start pointing fingers, calling people out, arguing with each other over what went wrong.

I believe the reason I got our team to happily and successfully defeat each encounter we came across in Naxx and half through Uld was because I lead with a calm demeanor. If some one messed up, I'd let them know what they did in a -friendly- tone, and then tell them still in a friendly tone what they can do to correct where they went wrong.

On several occasions I've had my GM and fellow Officers ask me to pick up raid leading again, just because I treated every one kindly and fairly and I had a calming attitude.

Guild Wars 2 console version confirmed

Feb 15th 2012 12:31PM (Massively)
I played FFXI on the Ps2 for about 4 years, I have to say I could see an updated version of that UI working for something like this. Very easily could adapt a controller layout to this with the limited hotkey bar. I'm not sure if Guild Wars 2's jumping ability has been confirmed/denied at this point but if they kept the lack of jumping out of this one too that'd make this an even easier console port. Maaaannnn I'm hoping for a Ps3 version.

The world (wide web) of Amalur grows as 38 Studios works on its MMO

Jan 20th 2012 1:52PM (Massively)
I'd just like to say ya'll need to stop arguin about ToR/WoW/whatever-the-hell on here. This is about Amalur, it always surprises me how basically every comment section in the articles on here ends up in some sort of argument.

Anyways, I loved the Reckoning demo. Sure, it was buggy, but it also was said to be a previous earlier version, just meant to give us a taste. From what I tasted, it was awweesssooommeee. I'm not tired of, but need a change from, all the grey's and browns out there. This game is wonderfully colorful, the combat is fun, and the story so far promises to be good.

I'm very much looking forward to an MMO set in this world. Just hoping the combat will be the same, cause that would be some really awesome fun in an MMO.

The Daily Grind: How much searching do you want in your game?

Jan 15th 2012 3:52PM (Massively)
Everquest in the beginning was amazing for the explorer like me. I remember getting lost on a ship out in the middle of I-still-don't-know-where. My guildies searched for me for about 3 days before we finally saved me from a remote island in the ocean. :S

One of the best experiences I've had in an MMO since starting on EQ all those years ago!

The Daily Grind: Do you rush to endgame?

Dec 31st 2011 2:16PM (Massively)
My highest character on ToR right now is 21. I at least generally play for 4-5 hours a day, so yes I'd say I stop to smell the roses! I myself have never understood the lure of "burning through months of content in a week". You pay 60$ for that game, the whole premise of it is to take part in a story... You can't take part in something if you're spacebarring through every scene or taking the fastest route through the most direct path to the next quest. Hey firsties, you got your firsts! Now what?

The Daily Grind: Are you still on the gaming train today?

Dec 25th 2011 10:47AM (Massively)
Ya I plan to get some Skyrim time in, and ToR, lookin forward to doing the flight missions. Weeeee

The Daily Grind: Have you ever attended an in-game wedding?

Nov 22nd 2011 7:58PM (Massively)
I was the groom in one of these weddings in FFXI, actually. GM sponsored event, the wedding was nice, it was to my then fiance. We parted ways some time down the road, but the ceremony was still fun and very pretty. I think the vid of it is still floating around on youtube some where.
