I'd love to see big developers actually enforce TOS say on RP servers or limit the RP servers and then enforce those policies. Do what Simutronics does with Gemstone IV and Dragonrealms. The sense of community and enforcement of company TOS is what is missing in the big mmo-rpgs.
This of course would require an active Host and CE GM staff to pull off which would require more money. Since I was willing to pay hourly charges to play those Simutronics games once upon a time and even the flat monthly rate which is higher then those charged for the bigger mmo-rpgs. I'd be more then happy to do so again to gain this.
Also the increased price would keep away the worst of the snipes, they tend to bitch about paying the measly 9.95 to 15.95 for 24/7/365 access to mmo-rpgs now. Imagine how much they would bitch or not pay if it was 39.95 or 49.95 that the Premium and Platinium Simutronics accounts are charged.
Agreed, lets hope he learned his lesson. When he comes back maybe he'll have learned a little empathy, maturity and social etiquette. Everyone screws up and can make a social gaff. That this guy obviously pursued an action to see if he and others could cause this guy to off himself, shows a total lack of maturity and maliciousness that I find unacceptable.
Hmm, since they are polling children and teenagers by and large, I tend to doubt the survey was worth the time it took to even gather the info. What info there was I should say. Basically this is a non-story story. Waste of band with to even bother to write up Eliot or to talk about.
Yup, sums it up. The two worst communities I'd run across by leaps and bounds were Age of Conan and EvE. They should both be in their own category honestly.
People are complaining about WoW's community but honestly those two communities make WoW's look pristine in comparison. That said I will agree that WoW and GW were turning points in changing the mmo-rpg community to an uglier shade.
I loved how combat felt and played in AoC, and how it looked as well. The game though over all came off as half baked and the crafting system sucked so badly. I've watched a few TSW videos and the combat in comparison looks rather weak in my opinion. Specially when I compare it to how the graphics of combat looked in AoC.
I'm hoping that Funcom will ramp it up, make it look more interesting because right now combat looks boring from the player side of things.
Guess that makes many of us bitter then Lenn. I agreed with Jef's points made in the article. Maybe we are a bit bitter, but honestly that does not change the facts that Jef made.
The Daily Grind: Would you pay extra for a filtered community?
