The Daily Grind: What game would you play were it not for the community?

Mar 27th 2012 9:47PM (Massively)
Because of the nature of EVE, the antisocial behavior gets all the press. And I won't deny, there's a lot of it. My WoW rp server is rainbow funland compared to New Eden.

However, the community can also be downright amazing--sometimes right after they're at their worst. Just before the earthquakes that hit Japan, the EVE forums were a mess. The tension that would later explode during the protests was beginning to boil, and the sniping was at an extreme. Then the earthquake, and the community rallies together and donates $44,000 to a relief fund. Not a huge sum, but a not a small one either. And they didn't get mini-hippogryph pets.

Another glaring reminder of the problem with democracy. Those that vote are often the ones you wish would just stay home.

@Jef Reahard

Fair enough. I was too nauseated by that point to consider that his laughing may have been ironic.

And that does nothing to excuse the other three. Those statements are collectively wrong on more levels than the steps of congress. If I ran PR for any of said companies, these guys wouldn't even be able to send internal emails without a rubber stamp.

'"German gamers like to think a lot, whereas American gamers like explosions," Merel said.

"Chinese players are willing to grind it out, and work for it," Young agreed. "American players won't put up with that."

"American players need a context, or a story, or a reason to go in [a dungeon]," Levy interjected, before going on to say that the only real context is loot and rewards. "In an MMO, the reason is the loot. The reason is that I'm getting something cool."

"That is what MMOs have devolved into," Georgeson laughed.'

Excuse me while I go throw up.

I never reached endgame, yet experienced numerous bugs with both the IA and BH class quests. SWTOR has lots of good qualities; polish isn't one of them.
