The Soapbox: The hidden perils of Guild Wars 2's microtransactions

@KamikazeSquirrel

All that assumes that people give a rat's arse that you are now 10 lvls higher than some others and have done the dungeons, we don't. People like you assume that GW2 is another level cap race. Being a higher level gains you nothing except access to the next part of your personal story.

It's not a race. If you are looking for that type of game then GW2 is not for you.

Dear @avidlurker

It IS the game I describe and the one you want. Nothing I have described above will be changed by the cash shop or the introduction of gems as a currency. Nothing I have read by the trolls in this post can affect my, or your, enjoyment of the game because it really has no effect on how you play the game.

Everything in the cash shop is available in-game, with gold, in time. It might take you longer to collect the gold than buying it, but hey, you are playing the game you love and the experience will last longer because you are taking your time. As I said above, so some guy has bought a nice skin on their weapon, or nice shoulder pads, so what? It shouldn't affect your enjoyment of the game.

As far as I'm concerned ANYTHING bought in a GW2 cash shop is no more important or required to play the game than a sparkle pony. You either want one, or you don't.

Relax, its all going to be fine.

I'm perplexed, I must play different games to all these negative people posting about this. Why should I, or anyone, care if one person plays the game at a slow pace, and slowly build up levels, armour, gold etc and gets a year of play out of a $60 boxed game, while another player spends $120 on the box and the cash shop to buy some cool looking armour and to raise levels faster?

There is no race to endgame in GW2 because there isn't any endgame at max level and max level gear can easily be bought with gold. Even if they sold % xp boosters, % damage boosters or whatever, it doesn't affect my game, or my enjoyment. If you want to shorten your enjoyment of the game by leveling faster, more power to you, I dont care; you'll still get sidekicked down to my level if you come wandering around where I'm playing and that fancy armour/damage boost/xp boost doesnt hurt me. More the fool you I think.

There are no factions, mobs stealing, loot ninjas in PVE so I wont be competing with power boosted pvpve players, and structured pvp is auto max level, balanced and non-skill buffs are not allowed, so again it doesn't affect me either.

Those that understand this game think this is a non-issue which is being latched onto by GW2 hatemongers because they dont like this style of cooperative game, or by people with a "Take notice of me!!" complex, upset because somehow Anet is doing what Anet want and not listening to them.

The more elitist jerks, naysayers and whinners who complain and end up QQ'ing GW2 over this issue, the better.

THIS GAME IS NOT FOR YOU. DONT PLAY IT!

What do you want to know about the next Guild Wars 2 beta?

Given all the armor available, I have not yet seen a gear preview screen where you can view armor on your character before you consider buying it. Not a problem for loot drops, but I like to see what it looks like before buying from a vendor. I don't want to have to alt-tab to a wiki to see the armor.

Perhaps a right click menu on a vendor list could bring up a "view on character" option.

The Guild Counsel: Raiding and dealing with the dreaded 'bench'

@FrostPaw

Firstly, I agree with you. I have never understood the pull of raiding in MMOs or why it has to be the only endgame content. I've done 2-3 of the early raids in WOW and found them totally boring. It added nothing to my enjoyment of the game and the later ones seemed to be more of the same; clear trash, fight minor boss, clear more trash, fight minor boss, clear more trash, kill big boss, rinse, repeat. I would still be playing WOW except the rest of the game got boring too once I had maxed out 3 toons of different classes.

However........ some people like raids for what ever reason and that's great, more power to them (pun intended). Clearly devs are going to continue to develop them in games that have a gear progression treadmill because of level caps and the lack of story progression at that point.

Each to their own. We just have to pick the games that appeal to us personally, be it raiding or anti-raiding, and support those developers that feed the thirst for what ever gets our blood burning : )

I really want to try this game out, but not so long as they insist on requiring me to install the "Pando Media Data Allowance Stealer"

Shame really...
