This just in, everyone: A game with a stylized artistic direction that's meant to run on a wide range of systems doesn't allow for player made faces that perfectly match a real life photo of an actual person!
Try your best to find a group. A Skald is one of the safer classes to solo as (you don't have stealth, but you do have the best speed available and a few CC options) and you could potentially hold your own against mos classes you'll face up against, but being in a group is still where you shine the most.
99% of the time, attacking a pet or charmed monster will be a waste of your time. If you kill the owner then the pet will disappear, or in the case of a charmed monster they'll just stand around (I think, anyway. It's been awhile). However, Necromancers are the exception. Necromancers perform all of their actions through their zombie pet, while the pet is out the Necromancer itself is a shade that you can't affect with any attacks or spells. Once you kill the pet, the Necromancer becomes attackable and loses almost all of his life, making him an easy kill. You're not likely to actually see any Necromancers in PvP, but I figured it'd be worth mentioning.
Most people playing these days has second account they run in the background for a buff bot. Buff bots are characters speced for maxed out player buffs (typically a Shaman in Midgard, although Healer buffbots are also possible for haste, armor, or power over time). Pretty much everyone running around in Thid is going to have the best buffs possible for that level. If you're in the Mid Portal Keep and you see someone getting buffs, try asking if they could throw some your way as well. People usually have concentration to spare, and having full buffs really does help a lot.
Casters hurt in this game. A lot. If a caster is allowed to stand around and cast at will they will blow up you and everyone you love before you can cry for nerfs. Your best defense against casters is keeping them interrupted and/or running. If you're fighting a caster, use your 2 instant damage spells more as interrupts than damage dealers. If a caster roots you, turn off your auto attack and mez them as they try to get away (keep in mind that if you use a style that has a bleed, your bleed will break the mez). If you can keep them from casting then, at the very least, they won't be able to kill you.
Stealthers like to camp bridges. In most games the big "out of stealth ambush" that assassin type classes get requires the assassin to be behind their target, but in DAoC the assassins actually need to stab you in the face for their big opener. If you see a translucent outline of a player appear in front of you, you have a split second to quick jerk your mouse to change your facing. If you can screw up their opener you can probably take them on.
My carrot is unique looking gear, seeing new areas, and a good challenge. Those three things were enough to get me to explore every area in GW at least once, and those areas didn't have some of the replayability features being promised in GW2's dungeons. If GW2 can provide those things then that's plenty of incentive for me.
Or even laelgon's own statement. It's hilarious how he talks about getting rid of the "basement dwelling virgin" stereotype, then goes and says the only reason a developer would want to bring more women into their community is to give the male gamers hopes they can hook up with one of them.
Got to love it when the people who claim to be for a certain stance end up doing more harm for that stance than good.
"There is nothing sexist about this and I suggest you actually try reading the article before spewing misinformation. The discounts and buffs apply to BOTH males and females. Massively only chose to report on the females for some disappointing reason"
Why did you tell him to read the article before "spewing misinformation" when you already realize that the article itself contains that same misinformation?
"Nival's Creative Producer Larisa Nuretdinova hopes this will expand Prime World's potential audience: "The idea is to introduce the MOBA genre not only to hardcore players who already love it, but to their friends who might be more casual, and of course to their sisters and girlfriends who may not be as hardcore.""
You know, there have been lots of times where I've wanted to get into the MOBA scene but haven't because every time I try I get slaughtered with little to no help in the learning process. This is the sort of thing I'd love and would get me to try this game out, but I don't have any ovaries so I guess I'm out.
City of Heroes. Back when GW2 first started talking about how it was doing away with the trinity, people were flipping out talking about how this was so unprecedented and arguing over it was even possible. City of Heroes has been doing fine for ages with groups that disobey the trinity. Plus you can actually play a "support" character in CoH, not just a heal spammer. You can do whatever content you want and be challenged, not be forced into doing "endgame" content only if you want to be rewarded. So many things people complain about are things that CoH has taken care of, and it's a shame that it doesn't have more players than it does.
Honorable mention would be DCUO. I see people going on all the time about how TERA is so innovative for being the first "true action MMO." Admittedly I haven't played TERA at all so maybe I'm missing something huge, but DCUO absolutely is an "action MMO," and a fun one at that. I'd say the biggest problem with it is that the UI is terrible to work with on a keyboard and mouse. The game really shines if you use a 360 controller or something.
