Only 2+ years, somehow it seems much longer than that. I don't know if that's a compliment or a jab but either way it's been an interesting ride for the past couple years. I also have a new fave phrase :
"A subscription is a cash-shop item -- a forced one"
I've thought the same thing myself but not in exactly those words, and when put into that precise statement it illustrates the true and powerful fact that F2P and P2P share a closer link to each other than many people have realized in the past.
I totally agree E.L. and it's also my least favorite statement.
Golf is "just a game" Chess is "just a game" Football is "just a game" Fantasy Football is "just a game" Poker is "just a game" Bowling is "just a game" The Stock Market is "just a game" World of Warcraft is "just a game"
I actually feel sorry for those who believe those statements are true, yet it is almost certainly the vast majority of the population who think that way. Dont bother arguing with them, they only deserve our silent pity.
I agree there is a lot to be thankful for in this past year of mmo gaming, and that each year just gets better and better as the genre evolves and branches out into unexplored areas. Thanks Beau for your always entertaining outlook, and your stylin' videostreams - Happy Thanksgiving!
Always really annoyed me too, and even forcing vsync in the video driver itself doesn't work. Adding support was one of the requests I made way back in the CB and if it's still not added then I doubt it ever will be.
I know it's been said before but it bears repeating: having two different games, one called World of Planes and the other called World of Warplanes is a really really really really really bad idea.
Whether it's "proper" or not, any Massively reader who is unfamiliar with the meaning of DotA (or MOBA for that matter) should probably hang it up and find another pastime...
...either that or take the 15 seconds to open a new tab and search the term. The education might actually do them some good! Maybe.
In my opinion, regardless of what "Oxford" might say, spelling out the meaning of acronyms for the benefit of an audience who already is fully familiar with the term - maybe even helped INVENT it - has the feeling of being talked down to and being handheld with an air of superiority that the poor uninformed reader might not be familiar with an acronym that everyone else already knows.
