Sony Online Entertainment issues an official response to Star Wars Galaxies petitions
Jun 30th 2011 5:12AM (Massively)In a very real sense I hope TOR does fail, as it will be just another pretty theme park and lack the depth of SWG. That might or might not bring Galaxies back, but a painfully valuable lesson will have been taught. if I can't have Flurry and Starsider everyday, I'll settle for a told-you-so smirk.

Jun 30th 2011 5:10AM (Massively)Except it won't be clean slate now, with what they've done. There was nothing smart about this.

Jun 30th 2011 4:51AM (Massively)Meant to post "marginalize the SWG crowd", I hate the non-editable boards here.

Jun 30th 2011 4:36AM (Massively)I suspect the same, and would put good money on it. But Old Republic WON'T be starting a Star Wars MMO with a clean slate; LA has now put a very foul taste in the mouths of much of the past and current SWG community.
If anyone here reading this is going to try and marginlize the SWG crwows by saying 'there's not enough of us to matter' bear in mind that Smedley said server pops weren't an issue in the closure, if the man can be trusted at least that far.
More importantly, if LA can knock off one MMO for another, there is NO guarantee they won't turn around and axe Old Republic as well, once they feel it's not living up to expectations.
If you ask me, they'll start it with a stigma. Old Republic SHOULD be known as the Next Big Star Wars MMO, but to many of us, now it's going to be known hereafter as The Game That Killed Galaxies. I've been watching forum posts, and it's obvious to some players, LA just put themselves beyond trust. If Galaxies goes down for good, I for one will never touch another LA title, and I'm not the only one to have said that.
Many of us WOULD have eventually gotten around to TOR, if not right off the bat, because in a bad economy it would take some real justification to pick up another MMO sub, but the point is, a bunch of happy SWG players might have also played over there as well. Now, they won't be seeing some of us there. LA is persona-non-grata now, and they're going to have to weigh TRO for what they might gain versus what they're going to lose.

Jun 30th 2011 4:22AM (Massively)How in the hell is this good advice? Between SOE and Lucasarts they're basically telling everyone that all they worked for in SWG the past 8 years will poof in a massive cloud of electrons by year's end.
All of the questing, all of the victories, all of the communities, all of the memories, all of the endless hours on our server(s) of choice...in the end all of it, ALL of it, won't amount to anything. It will all be gone.
I will log in here and there, and I'll surely be on at the end for the final celebrations, but from here in I can't see a reason to play it like I used to. Why grind anything more if you know it will be gone in under 6 months?
The fire's gone out for me, and it makes me want to smash something, because I really got a lot of joy out of this game in the time I played it. In my view, it's simply too special of a game, despite its many flaws, to simply disappear without a trace.
Some of us aren't going to let this go, not by a long-shot. Whether it's server emulators or whatever, we WILL have our game and play it too.
The Daily Grind: What's your favorite mode of travel?
Jun 5th 2011 6:36AM (Massively)Star Wars Galaxies- Groundside; for short range and agile travel, I love my STAP-1. If the trip’s a bit longer, my Lava Skiff (yes, they got lots of other places than Mustafar). And if I need speed and some protection, I drag out the AT-RT.
Spaceside; as a Reb there’s no more versatile and deadly way to get across a distant galaxy than the Advanced X-wing. If I want something more specialized, my ARC-170 or Y-wing…but if I want a nice lounge to kick back and AFK while lurking in an asteroid belt, my YKL-37R Nova Courier is the place to be.
DCUO; Acrobatics by FAR the best travel power. Solid ground speed, able to scale a tall building in….a few good bounds at least (or grappling lines), and with the right powers slotted, limited flight as well.
City of Heroes; Ninja Run from the Martial Arts pack plus an occasional 10K to have a fresh Raptor Pack means no real need to slot a true travel power; the setup can get you just about anywhere. If I must go with a travel power, Flight, Super Jump and Teleport I all favor- it just comes down to the build of the character and how I plan to use it.
Age of Conan, while someone will no doubt mention one fast mount or another, my barbarian slotted with lots of Hide and Skulk points is worth her weight in gold.
One Shots: Feeling the love
Mar 18th 2011 7:28PM (Massively)LOL, I was thinking how comically ironic this post was, being everything I’ve ever heard about EVE is that it’s one massive, server-wide gank-fest. I assume that was point of the screenshot taker.
The Daily Grind: Have you ever bought gold?
Mar 14th 2011 6:50AM (Massively)For MMO’s I’ve never gone beyond client-side mods like UI’s and other graphics alters, and otherwise play them as is. Yes even in Everquest, which can be nosebleed difficult and make you think about buying plat, but I never have. I’m glad to say everything I own is under my own efforts. Also, all MMO markets I’ve seen suffer from avarice and inflation, and dumping more plat into a market can’t do anything but ill to a server market.
The Daily Grind: Have you ever bought gold?
Mar 14th 2011 3:45AM (Massively)Agreed there. I never rolled a female toon in any game for the purpose of twinks and other free stuff, but I found out if your pixels have a little bit more curvature, it can up your chances of random loot dropping into your hands, LOL.

Mar 14th 2011 1:25AM (Massively)“While I'll happily hate on Americans all day long,”
@Dril
Dril, you’re walking into this debate fairly biased with a remark like that, so you pretty much disqualify yourself. As an American citizen and gamer I will say stow it, nobody cares.
That being said, the Euro gamer market is nothing to sneeze at, and I do think it’s a bad move to release first Stateside like that. It makes more sense to release to all your target countries more or less at the same time, depending on technological or marketing hurdles.
While I think AoC is overall a great game, I must admit one of the things that pissed me off was the server segregation. As a longtime SOE Station gamer, I’m used to variety on my servers. In EQ it’s heavily American and Canadian, but I’ve had Danes in my guild. In SWG I got used to my old guild being at least half Aussie, so yes I was surprised and disappointed to find AoC chopped up regionally like this.
I inquired into transferring at least one toon to the Euro RP server, because what I saw of the community there on forums impressed me sufficiently to make the move, but of course we all know how that ended.
Don’t hate on the American gamers, we don’t make these calls either; save your ire for the companies making asinine decisions. We just want our game like anyone else.
