Why I Play: Star Wars: The Old Republic

Mar 21st 2012 4:10PM (Massively)
@MMOaddict

I agree 100%, when I hit 50, and started to write a retrospective blog post on the experience, and what I liked/disliked about it, I found myself filling the page with dislikes, mainly like how every fight in the "open" world was the EXACT same... the only differences were would the next pack of mobs have 1 or 2 strongs in it, if it was just one I would do the exact same rotation each time, if it was two, I would start out with CC and then follow the same little rotation... the only thing I enjoyed about the leveling experience was my guild.

I actually dreaded the thought of leveling an alt through to the same planets, doing the same quests killing the same groups of 3 mobs. I have never in 8 years of playing MMO's dreaded leveling an alt...

I posted a comment last week explaining what I disliked about the game, and some of the responses got me thinking, what I truly could not stand about SWTOR was the leveling experience. It was the most boring, linear, experience of my MMO "life" filled with faux choices that made no difference to the game other than I might get a thank you letter a few hours later if I chose the light-side choice.

Bioware really dropped the ball with SWTOR, it would take a total overhaul of the game for it to come even close to living up to their promises pre-release.

@epilepticemu

I had the same experience you did... I would explore but in the end it only felt like I was exploring a map, not like I was exploring a planet... I can't get into a game anymore where the only way to get between zones/quest hubs is through a pre-approved entrance/exit... when you have one entrance and one exit to a zone, it kills the feel of the game for me...

@ReadingRambo

I was pretty clear with what I said, I want more questing content. I want a level 50 planet that is not focused on PvP, and is focused on PVE questing and story development. I wasn't talking about sandbox, I was talking about actual questing zones for level 50's where someone can just go and chill and quest and experience more of the story outside of OP's or FP's.

@Larry Everett
I didn't mention Corellia because from what I understand there are maybe a few hours of new quests being added and that's if you take your time. I mentioned an entire zone for level 50's.

Guess I was spoiled by Rift. I hit 50, and had 2 entire zones to quest in, then with 1.6 we got Ember Isle which was a whole nother zone.

Still nothing but instances and PVP at 50 though. I like to continue to quest at max level, preferably not having to do the same dailies everyday I want a level 50 quest planet with no PvP on a PvE server.

Personally dailies are basically the game developer telling you that they were too lazy to do any more quest or story development at max level and handing you dailies in the hopes that you will be sated. I hate them, I got to 50 on my Commando saw that all there was to do was the same heroic quests, the few FP's and PvP either in Warfronts or on Ilum (seriously... a planet where pvp is forced even on a PvE server? Pure lazy development) I hate pvp, I hate the atmosphere to brings to games, I hate the people who get butt hurt over it, I hate the people who think they are God's gift to the world because they might be even a smidgen ok at it. That's why I play on a pve server, and don't pvp. So until they get their assess off the couch and develop some decent end-game experiences outside of instances and raids (which yes I do enjoy, I just don't want to spend my entire play session in them), and PvP, Bioware won't receive a cent from me in subscription fees. I know I could level an alt, but I enjoy playing one character, and only one...

But hey maybe it's just me.

@Aziras Many games before WoW had pretty substantial and hard core player killing systems. WoW was not the first game where PvP was brought into focus or whined about.

Aion, I love how it plays, but hate PVP with an all consuming passion.

Trek through fire and flame in RIFT's Infernal Dawn raid

@Lenn

They play a huge part. Hell that's pretty much ALL Ember Isle was about.

With every major patch they implement at least one new Raid Rift, and usually a few experts.

Rifts are the core of this game.

Personally though I quit because I'm sick to d@mn death of them releasing new content instead of doing SERIOUS bug fixing of the older stuff... hell every time I run GSB or RoS we see numerous bugs, some even leading to raid wipes...

I never played SWG... the graphics, and the sandbox aspects always kind of put me off.... however, I am truly sad to see this game go, and I feel for all of you who have lost so much with it's closing, friendships, time, anything really.

Truly a sad day, when such an influence fades into memory...
