MMORPG is an arbitrary designation coined by Richard Garriott.

Massive could mean anything.
Multiplayer simply means multiplayer
Online means it is online and not single or LAN which was popular at the time.
RPG means it is a role playing game. It is not a shooter, puzzle or strategy game or any other genre.

This has always been the problem with MMO design from the start.
As much as I like TOR, the on rails at every point is really annoying.

"Immersion" is a mental state. It is subjective.
All it means is to become engrossed or occupied by something. Deliberately attempting to build something to be "immersive" is like chasing a rainbow.

Haters are gonna hate.

We see this with every MMO launch. Nothing is ever good enough for some folks and they drag everything down into the mud.

They spread as much negative propaganda as they can, they drag scores down and drive off the communities.

We the players kill our own games rather that enjoy them.

It is nice to see an MMO launched in 2003 or 04 (aside from WoW) that is still healthy and vibrant.
