@Jef Reahard Well I wouldn't say I hate the community, but Mittani gives the community a bad name and should step down or be removed.
He gives the 'majority' of the EvE community a bad name to those of us that were willing to try it. The attendees at Fan Fest doesn't help change this perception.
@Jef Reahard And what of all the attendees at Fan Fest for that panel? A majority of them seemed to overwhelmingly approve of scams/ganking/'hardcore' play that was championed by the majority of the panel. I acknowledge that EvE University was there. I also like to point out that they poked fun at him about never kicking anyone out of his corp. Oh and someone else was accused of being carebears. Which apparently in EvE is the worst thing to be called because they're so 'hardcore.'
Thing is you're painting a picture of something that doesn't exist. You're trying to convince myself and others that the EvE game culture is something that it is not. The sole purpose of EvE is to spend an enormous amount of time building things up to gank stuff from other people. And they do the same to you. That's fine. But say what it is. A ganker's paradise.
That doesn't mean the game is bad, it just means the majority of MMO players want nothing to do with it.
And Mittani may not be liked by the majority of the players, but he represents them now. He's about to start his second term yes? And having someone whom says those things and not lose his title or be banned from the game, does not sit well with any of us whom have very strong opinions about keeping LIFE/GAMING separate.
@Jef Reahard I think the article should of went farther than dismissing what was said by the CSM leader as flamebait. Mainly you're talking about getting people into EVE, but don't address the fact that the guy whom is the representation of the player community is a major a-hole. And everyone there was reveling about how hardcore they are to pubbies. You write this article as if this elitist attitude doesn't exist. And it does.
Odd. No mention of The Secret World in this article? It tells you from the onset that you are not a hero. You are a cog in a machine. The entire game and storyline is structured around this idea.
