Absolutely, maintenance mode is way better than shutting an entire world down. Take Earth and Beyond for example. I think about that game from time to time. It would be great if they resurrected it, even if it was just in maintenance mode.

I'm really looking forward to getting back into Vanguard, way to go Sony! My desktop is full of your free to play MMO games, of which I have a hefty cash shop wallet to spend where I want, when I want. I can't wait to add Vanguard to the list.

That was epic. Thank you Shawn! I've read Beau's articles about time spent in Wurm, and even tried it out for a little while. I'm definitely going back after hearing about your adventures. Possibilities seem endless!

EverQuest was tough, challenging and fun! I used to get so mad after dying and loosing a level. I don't think there has been a MMO since EverQuest that has really felt as hard.

Warcraft raids are challenging due to people involved but EQ has that too. And pvp feels hard sometimes in some MMO's but it's a different type of "hard" because I'm fighting against other players.

I think if MMO's reintroduced "hard" back to their game, like really making death seem like something you absolutely want to avoid, then that element of danger and excitement would come back.

The only MMO I have ever done this for is City of Heroes. I dearly love the game and still sub to it after 7 years! Even though about 2 years ago I only play it maybe 1 or 2 times a month for a couple of hours. However, since free to play, I think that suites my playtime much better.

It begs the question. Do MMO's loose their interest to even die hard fans after about a 5 year timespan? I tend to drop an MMO and go somewhere else after about 5 years.
