The Soapbox: Casual is as casual does

Apr 4th 2012 12:35AM (Massively)
A good article and lots of interesting diverse comments to go with it.

The human race as a whole seems to like things to be neatly labelled and slot in its place. Anyone who steps outside of those label definitions is considered weird (a label in itself.) The problem with this approach is when the labels have a poor definition to the point of being worthless as in the case of casual/hardcore debate. Even so we still persist in using such terms to try and define how we see ourselves or other people.

The whole casual/hardcore thing will always be a matter of perspective and as we all look at things slightly differently so there will never be a concrete definition of these terms (just look at the comments on this article.) The terms themselves mean little to anyone but ourselves due to our own perspectives on how we see things. One persons hardcore is another persons casual and so on.

Me, I am just a person enjoying an mmo, whichever one it may be. If someone wants to label me casual or hardcore then good luck to them as I will still only be a person enjoying an mmo as far as I am concerned.

Be vewy vewy quiet; we're hunting demons: A look at Diablo III's Demon Hunter

@Faction 3

I also played PoE over the weekend & I must say I came away very impressed with what the devs have done. They have some genuinely great idea and I will be keeping an eye on that game in the future.

As for how it compare to Diablo 3, well as I haven't played that yet so it would be unfair of me to compare them so I won't, i will leave that to others who are better informed or just more accomplished at trolling :p

EMI sues Def Jam Rapstar creators

Mar 31st 2012 8:38AM (Joystiq)
@majora1991 I would bet money that if EMI win this case that the artists who work is allegedly infringed won't see a single cent of any damages that may be awarded.

Just a money grab by the management company rather than any real pretence of protecting the artists work, all very sad and grubby imo.

Betawatch: March 24 - 30, 2012

@Plastic I must have been blind or stupid (I will go with stupid I think :p) as I have completely missed this game and any mention of it before now. Anyhow better late than never I guess so downloading it now.

Looks like my quiet weekend is going to filled with some hack & slash action, it looks like it might be a lot of fun.

DC Universe Online makes Legendary members even more legendary

Mar 30th 2012 5:35PM (Massively)
@Furdinand OK I will bite to get the station cash needed would mean subbing for 6 months minimum, which assuming you take the multiple month option will cost you $71.94. To get all the DLC you would have to wait till SOE credit you the sc which you receive monthly 500 at a time. Whereas I can purchase all the DLC and have immediate access for $29.97.

About the only reason I would ever consider subbing would be to raise the character slot cap but even then I could purchase another 4 slots (to give 10 total) and still come out ahead of subbing for 6 months cost wise . The money cap is not a problem as there are ways to work around that if you have just one friend who subs.

DC Universe Online makes Legendary members even more legendary

oh great lock boxes are coming here too more shit that I will have to throw away le sigh :(

The extra benefits are nice for those that subscribe I guess but are not enough to make me want to subscribe. I can enjoy DCUO well enough just buying the dlc's as and when I want them for a one off fee rather than renting them for 14.99 per month or whatever the sub fee is these days.

Why I Play: EVE Online

"but nothing else comes remotely close to the width, breadth, and depth of EVE."

@mikejr So basically its fat :p

From my point of view its not really worth having all that "fat" if you have to wade through a sea of s**t to get to it. Eve is not my sort of game but if you enjoy it then good for you I guess :)
