MMO Family: Is free-to-play bad for kid-friendly MMOs?

Mar 22nd 2012 2:38AM (Massively)
@Patently Right I didn't specify how, when and why they get the money - It was a broad statement. Internally I wasn't thinking of any sort of repeated funding as I'm personally against an allowance.

@J45neoboy The art looks like Free Realms to me.

I think it would be a good opportunity to teach your kid economics and how to use money. Give your kid like $20 to use as he/she pleases but tell them that they aren't getting more so they'll have to use it wisely. When the kid buys a bunch of vanity items instead of something like extra bags, or something with actual use that will make a positive impact you can teach them that it's the same when they have real money, you'll only get a certain amount in a week and you'll have to choose what you buy wisely or else you wont have money for food or gas or something else important.

Diablo III shelves PvP to make launch

You know, I was about to get angry and say PvP was like...half of the game...but their logic is actually pretty good. You can't delay and entire game to all of the people just because one aspect that some people want isn't ready.

Star Wars: The Old Republic subscription numbers stabilize at 1.7 million

That's a respectable number. I'm one of those who left the game after a couple months but I'm glad there's a good amount of people staying.

The Soapbox: My MMORTS is more MMO than your MMORPG

I've tried a good deal of MMORTS games. They are all pretty much exactly the same...and they all suck. I've been wanting to play a good MMORTS for a very very long time but not an one is remotely good.

Related to the article, though, the people who don't consider MMORTS games as MMOs are just misunderstanding what a MMO is. They think MMO is closely related to RPG because the first MMOs were RPGs. They don't consider MMO is imply a description of how the game is implemented. Obviously MMO means Massively Multiplayer Online...any game where you play online with a large amount of people is a MMO. Certainly this doesn't require 1000 words to explain...but I suppose Massively has to make money somehow...I just wish sometimes they would cut the needlessly wordy articles.

I might just resub when 1.2 comes along. This is really all stuff that should have been in the game at release.
