Jan 30th 2012 12:24PM (Massively)Darkfall
Allods
Mortal Online
Shadowbane
Original UO
Warhammer
Games with FAR FAR FAR fewer subscribers than PvE focused (far more PvE focus than PvP) MMO's:
Darkfall
Allods
Mortal Online
Shadowbane
Original UO
Warhammer
Hm. I wonder where the money is going to be in the future?
Aren't six CLEAR lessons over the past 15 years enough for MMO developers to learn? Why are they intentionally making products that will be less successful?
LEARN FROM HISTORY OR BE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT. noobs.
Mortal Online announces a new expansion called Awakening
Jan 16th 2012 6:15PM (Massively)Oh, and here's a clue for all the Developers working on Mortal Online:
Client Side Hit Detection Is BAD.

Dec 5th 2011 10:05PM (Massively)Yeah, my comments were in the context of this site, and this headline, which is MMO specific, not FPS nor any other non-MMO genre or title.
Wings Over Atreia: In defense of PvP -- a carebear's conversion
Dec 5th 2011 9:37PM (Massively)Customers will not pay, indefinitely, to be victims.
In each 1v1 PvP encounter, when someone is defeated, there is a victim.
50% of your customers being victims, daily, is unsustainable in the long term.
Eventually, 1v1 PvP becomes repetitive. It cannot be the only "end game". Proven by WAR, AC2, UO, possibly others.
Sandbox + PvP = chaos. Proven by Darkfall, Shadowbane, and Mortal Online. All failures compared to similar PvE games with the same budgets.
The Daily Grind: What's the worst thing an MMO dev's ever said?
Nov 28th 2011 11:29PM (Massively)"
Think about this deeply for a moment... are you really sure you want to bring Assassin performance to a dev's attention so that they can analyze the actual server-wide Assassin DPS performance and make decisions based on analysis of where Assassin actually place on server-wide DPS parses?
"
and
"
I haven't seen anything to indicate from their parsers that Rangers would be deficient in producing anything short of the top ranking DPS numbers for their group or raid, and it reflects what I see in Ranger serverwide performance across all player categories.
In none of the categories does a Conjurer, Necromancer, Swashbuckler, or Brigand ever outrank the Ranger's DPS averages.
"
and
"
Brigands have to accept the fact they are going to steal aggro if they are playing correctly
"
and
"
If you're having difficulty as a raiding Brigand because of the change to Amazing Reflexes, you might want to take stock in health and resist gear and achievements and adapt to the raid encounter like other classes need to do in raid situations.
"
The last one, above, after he himself put in the change to Amazing Reflexes that gave Brigands AE immunity for 13 months.
Yes, Jared, we all have personal time machines, so we could go back and roll on all that health and resist gear we didn't need because of the change YOU PERSONALLY MADE. grrrr. /rude

The trading lanes between mountain peek cities grew to be as populated as the cities themselves.
"
I know it always impresses me when developers can't spellcheck their poorly written lore before it's presented to the public. "peek" indeed.
Seriously, your race lore is horrific. It reads like it was written in 5 minutes by an overworked and underpaid intern. I've seen better in elementary school story contests.
TERA monthly chat talks public previews, PvP, and more
Nov 23rd 2011 11:42AM (Massively)High heels, big assets, and large tracts of land. That's how you make AAA MMO's !
Riiiiiiiight.
En Masse talks more on Creatures of Magnitudinous Derrieres
Nov 11th 2011 4:28PM (Massively)The monster's outer shape matters a lot in combat because TERA lets players aim their attacks naturally. Auto-targeting games only need a normal attack with different attack motions, but we have more aspects to consider because the player's character actually gets hit in TERA.
"
Sure, lockless combat is great, until ping times are 100ms or greater. Then you're getting hit far more often than it appears on the screen and you can't hit anything for love or money. Just like FPS games.
Then it's just frustrating. And what's the average client < - > server distance in North America that gives you 100ms+ latency displayed in-game?
I'll give you a hint. It's less than the distance from Los Angeles to New York. Enjoy!
