Blizzard announces layoffs of 600 employees worldwide

Feb 29th 2012 1:51PM (Massively)
@SnarlingWolf "They don't have anything new planned for SC correct? No SC3 or anything?" Wrong! They are releasing Heart of the Swarm, the first expansion, soon this year. Following that they will be working on Legacy of the Void?, rounding out Starcraft 2. Remember that this game was turned into a trilogy, each race getting its own game.

RuneScape increasing subscription prices on February 1st

Jan 24th 2012 10:54PM (Massively)
@Maseno My thoughts exactly! They overspent on legal fees and are asking for the players to cough up the debt. They might lose lots of players from this but given the price tag, I highly doubt it.

Max Schaefer talks Torchlight II development, potential MMO plans

Jan 24th 2012 10:52PM (Massively)
I have a feeling that they are not sure how to approach the MMO just yet. By releasing smaller single player games, they can test certain game systems and see what works and what doesn't.

League of Legends update bringing sharper AI, new bots

Jan 24th 2012 10:49PM (Massively)
Its great news for players who play this game however I think the game is too slow and gets old after a while. when i played this game, I mainly did vs bots because its a great way to try out champions against champions you already know. now lets bring out the dominion bots (or have they done so already?)

Namco executive: F2P titles 'can't be high quality'

Jan 19th 2012 3:12PM (Massively)
I disagree that free to play games can't be high quality. Quality can be measured differently than others. Personally, I measure quality by how much fun I have. Outdated graphics is acceptable as long the game gives good gameplay and keeps me entertained. What the AAA titles need to watch out for is becoming too complex that its a detriment to the gameplay itself. All these AAA games coming out try to come up with something different than the behemoth World of Warcraft has to offer. World of Warcraft was able to catch a good share of MMO players and keeps them roped in. It doesn't matter how good your graphics are, if its still crappy gameplay and bug ridden, no one will play your game.

The Daily Grind: Do you like need vs. greed loot distribution?

Jan 17th 2012 12:54PM (Massively)
In PUG's, Need before Greed never works because everyone just chooses NEED and at the end of the dungeon, only one players gets all the rewards . It takes only one player to ruin the run. KIck the player and wait 30 more minutes to replace the member? Sure, go ahead if you have the time - most don't want to wait around doing nothing. In the end and in any group, you'll be fighting over who get what items and there will always be one player unhappy that they were never given the chance to get an item.

My favorite loot system is from Diablo/Mythos. "What you see is what you get".

The Daily Grind: Would you pay for an MMO's mobile app?

Jan 16th 2012 5:10PM (Massively)
@(Unverified) To be fair, they're handling all of their games terrible (or at least Blizzard quality in the past)

@SwarlesBarkley I won't trust an outside company with my game information.

The Daily Grind: Do character wipes influence your beta participation?

Jan 11th 2012 8:42AM (Massively)
The determining factor on whether a character should be kept or not is the release of a cash shop. Anytime they start asking for money, its released - launched. Companies that keep the game in open beta once cash shop is out want to have the excuse that "its only beta", "we don't replace items due to bugs" attitude.

As for my participation, I hate to say this, but I view closed betas, where most of the characters are getting wiped, as a sneak peek. Will I like this game? I always get into closed betas late so most of the major easy to find bugs has been found already. Of course, I don't play it for reals. I don't spend too much time on it. I just try to learn the game if I like it.
