Get into a RIFT Instant Adventure faster than watching this promo video

@SnarlingWolf Blame the developers for not making the world more dynamic with people getting robbed or going about their business doing stuff or hidden monsters or dragons with treasure waiting to die in zones you dont expect. Thats the issue with ANY MMO as far as themepark is concerned.

Theres no real reason for exploration because what monsters are where is predecided by the zone its in. Its why levels are an antiquated and useless idea because it limits the kind of things you can do with encounters or just plain surprising people. All because everyone is afraid little Timmy wont want to play again because his new character got killed by a Master Dragon that just so happened to live in the mountain cave next to the newbie Village.

To me, thats what an MMO's world should be filled with...uncertainty. When you already know how everything is going to shake down, whats the point of going through it more than once, even if its just to have some slightly shinier threads than you had previously? the way i see it, the idea of "zones" needs to die and more interesting monsters and activities needs to be shuffled around more. And we need to bring back the idea that sometimes powerful things can be just around the corner ready to eat you if get in their way.

The Daily Grind: Have the post-NDA testimonials changed your mind about SWTOR?

@JayDay Dude I've never even PLAYED Star Wars Galaxies, much less talked about it. If you played KOTOR 1&2 and then played SWTOR and told me TOR was a better game i would LAUGH AT YOU. its not even about whether or not its a single player game vs an MMO even because the developers expressly said that they wanted this to be a MASSIVELY SINGLEPLAYER GAME that just so happens to have people in it. so if we look at it like that then we can and I WILL make comparisons to them and its just mediocre.

The dialogue system is the same stupid system in Mass Effect and Dragon Age 2 because they wanted to give you a voice, i say screw that because if it means my character cannot better establish his or her own identity through different sentence structures besides GOOD Choice, Neutral Choice, and Hail SATAN!! choice then it isn't worth it.

Now the Class choices are OK but it wouldve been better (as well as easier) to just copy pasta the whole D20 ruleset that they swiped in KOTOR 1&2. Sure some changes would have to be made, but it would allow much more freeform development and in terms of RPing it would totally make it easier to be someone like a neutral jedi who has both darkside powers and lightside powers but doesnt get the big bonuses of either because hes only neutral. or hell, i played a Jedi Consular and just DESTROYED whole mobs of enemies with force storm even though i was garbage in 1v1 combat. Right now, Ive heard theres no real benefit to being a "grey" character yet, which makes me wonder why they bothered with the choices if its really that binary.

And lastly, since theres so much downtime in an MMO IN GENERAL why didnt they bother to add the Pazaak card game and Swoop Races as a means of making a few extra credits? Its not like it would have required much to program in and would at least give you something to do in the Cantinas while you wait on a party to get setup. Wouldnt it be awesome to to find cards lying around the world or from special NPCs for a price? It would be its own little meta game and it would always make sense in the universe because we are already predisposed to it in the older games.

The way it is now it just feels like so many missed opportunities, all in the name of making a game that looks and plays similar to WoW because thats whats making money now instead of worrying about what works for the universe and what works for the game.

Basically, Ive never seen a game that didnt scream "Corporate Greed" so loudly in my entire life. and whats worse is that they took a universe that i would have enjoyed playing in and PAID FOR and turned it into something completely different and BORING. Theres a reason why people are now leaving WoW. they are bored of the way the game plays and want an EVOLUTION of the genre of the themepark game. If they wanted to play a game like WoW they would still be playing it.

After seeing what it has to offer, i must unfortunately decline to playing this game. The "star wars themepark" isnt what drove me away initially since i kinda liked WoW. What sucked about is just how much it clung to that ideal. Im not playing MY character so much as im playing BIOWARE'S character.

Ive always hated the way Mass Effect did its dialogue but accepted that it was its own enitity so that was fine. but having that in EVERY bioware game just feels like it takes the game out of my hands and im sort of living vicariously in someone else's character. You know what this? Its actually a successfully made American made JRPG. if you leave out the random battles and focus on how the Japanese like to tell you THEIR STORY about THEIR characters, thats what your doing. and while thats great for those who like it, its not what I wanted.

What i wanted is to be MY OWN Jedi and make my own decisions and have the old dialogue trees (dont care if im a mute) back. I also want the D20 system back because that was a great system and was lots of fun. I also want the ability from KOTOR 2 to be a Jedi Master and apprentice one of my companions (which may or may not already be in the game). And wheres Pazaak and Swoop Races?! Pretty much all i wanted was KOTOR with online play in a somewhat more open world and i feel they only got it half right.

And for the love of god, get rid of the Clone Wars art style!! That style is much too "Saturday morning cartoon" for something like this. So yeah, as your slightly above average MMO it's probably OK. But as a true successor to the KOTOR Lineage it is SUB-PAR AT BEST.

@Marked Terenas Menethil II said it best at the end of Lich King, "No King Rules forever." WoW wont ever die, but i dont think itll ever be as big as it once was either.

lets face it guys, super hero mmos work better as F2P than Sub. theres really only so much you can do with it and without making something extraordinarily broken, your kinda restricted in what you can do. especially in terms of roleplaying. that said, DCUO is definitely a great game and i defy anyone to find a more smoother or natural playing MMO. such a good mmo.
