Enter at Your Own Rift: A carnival recap and a war on the horizon

Apr 7th 2012 10:41PM (Massively)
I wish more people would try Rift, unlike a certain game that keeps dumbing itself down because they don't want people to do math -- Rift has gone the opposite way. It is about finding a perfect balance of stats and class abilities. You can gear in many different ways and be effective. Instead of adding a lot of useless fluff to their trees either. If you love to min-max or play nerdly, or raid, or just have fun play Rift.

@avaloner To the three people above you -- I hadn't realized that because you raid, Trion stopped you from doing all of the things you mentioned were given to non-raiders? How do they restrict you from doing them?

@Space Cobra AC came out the same year as EQ, relatively speaking just a few months after EQ.

Perfect World demoing Neverwinter and RaiderZ at PAX East

RaiderZ is a poor mans version of Tera. Literally it is a stripped down version of the game and the lack of character diversity really irks me. That is my problem with Perfect World, generally they KIRF whatever the new trend is in MMOs, make a watered down version of it, and try to make as much money as possible.

@Jormaster Sorry but is this a double post? Of course it is news, even if you don't like it.

The Daily Grind: Which non-existent MMO genre would you play?

How about an MMO based on evolution? Where your talent trees decide that type of species you become rather than starting as a Orc Rogue? You can start as a spider monkey, then pick a talent that makes you grow and so on. Make all talents available to everyone but as you pick a certain amount of them in one tree you lose the ability to pick them from another. So say you go physical -- protection after putting 10 points into the tree you lose the ability to actually use magic. After putting another 10 points you lose access to stealth trees. Another 10 points and you are now limited to 3 trees you can pick from.

Also, make it so passive abilities are on a different tree as well so they never interfere, once you hit level X your form no longer evolves (say 40) but you can start customizing your appearance.

You could incorporate wings, multiple arms, natural armor, and all sorts of neat stuff. Sort of a spore mmo I guess.

@Ghostspeaker Correct, but Ultima Online did allow stealing and killing.

@Ghostspeaker Asheron's Call did it first.

@kurosenshu You do realize, I mean I hope, that this is a Korean game that is being translated and brought to the North American and European markets by two different companies. Frogster is doing the European Launch while En Masse is working on the North American one.

@scfs123 Being up and not being able to download the client are two separate issues.
