@malaclypse I assume though you never ventured into competitive play, which is very much pay to win...

Get to the PvE zones, speed through the hubs (i know not that great but faster than PvP repeatables and not quite as dull) and get to level 24 or 39... should not take too long 39 is doable in around 6 hrs.

At 20 you can head to the BG (Thidranki) which has a few more players in it because of nostalgia reasons...

At 35 you can get into Molvik which is the most populated BG at the moment, since it starts after the New User Journey ends...

Remember though that 20 and 35 respectively are the min level to get in... 24 and 39 would be ideal.

I still love the game to bits but honesty requires me to tell you that apart from those 2 BGs, the 45-49 BG and actual R vR, everything else is pretty deserted

I love how EVE players think they are the most hardcore of the hardcore in a game where the only skill required is having vast amounts of game knowledge and where people who have been playing for 4 years will always be exactly 4 years ahead of someone who starts today no matter how much that new guy plays ^^

well tbh it's not really too difficult to "know what we are going to do for several expansions ahead..." if you always do exactly the same damn thing....

5/10 levels, a few new dungeons, 1-3 raids, new crafting profession, either new race or new hero class, multiply all the numbers in the game with a few digits, screw up the talent system some more... why change the formula if it works, right? :P

back in the day when I was rocking a 2-86 I bought my first "real" PC to be able to run Starcraft, Diablo and CounterStrike

I would not however buy a console just to get around some "platform exclusive" BS... I'd rather just not play the game ;)

If you think about it, it can't harm or destroy the ecconomy since there is no "new" currency being introduced into the game... you are not buying 5000 gold on the item shop you are selling your gems to another player for 5000 gold, so that gold had to come from somewhere...

sure there will be farmers and gold hoarders but you have those folks in EVERY MMO... even without goldsellers...

I really don't see what the big deal is... I'd rather have some folks buy ingame gold this way instead of nourishing the corrupt account stealing goldsellers...
