@Deliverator From my perspective, the buff is just a shortcut system. You pay money to shortcut having to run dungeons as many times as people without the buff.
Were also forgetting the fact that the really epic looking loot (ie; dungeon armour and weapon sets) will likely be purchased with a token system, rather than mob drops. Yes there probably will also be 'paid for buffs' that increase the tokens given per dung, but again, this boils down to people being abit lazier about their gaming. Maybe a collector for example, someone who wants all the dung gear as trophies (with gear without stat advantages itll become about personal preference not need for the best) will consider spending money on boosting his token/drop rate so he doesnt have to trawl dungeons for the rest of his gw2 life.
I dont know, i just see the system as being accessible without intruding or belittling those who do not want to spend RL money. That includes myself, as the only gems/cash shop items i plan on buying is character slots with in game gold.
@Gamingstjean Im hopeful that the game lives far past my exceptions. Altho I am keeping a realistic eye on it also.
What i will say is every major gaming site and magazine is going crazy about it right now and the beta has been the most applied to thing since, errrrr, sliced bread. 3 things need to happen for it to get WOW numbers though;
1. Smooth release with few bugs and alot of polish, WORLDWIDE release! 2. Release on ps3 and xbox in very near future. 3. Awarded GOTY (something i believe is possible if 1 and 2 happen).
Sorry, not meaning to crank the hype machine even further, just saying from what iv read around the internet, the game has a better chance at claiming king than any other mmo. Aslong as it really is, released when its ready.
@Deliverator Your making it sound far more weird than it actually is.
Its not like the treasure finder buff will give you unique items. So therefore you just have a better chance at grabbing the carrot than other people. Now when you take into consideration how gear doesnt effect all that much, it isnt even a carrot in traditional sense. More like a 'look cool' carrot.
Again another article that cant let go of the traditional treadmill idea. This is what is confusing a lot of players and turning some off guild wars 2. Like the above mentioned, you shouldn't need a carrot if the world is fun and compelling - which, from the looks of MANY reports from the beta, the world is the most compelling of all the MMOs ever released.
Yea ok, theres incentive to look cool. But apart from that any argument can be nailed down to fun vs grind.
My 'Golden Carrot' is fun. If the dungeons are fun, i will play them. End of.
ALSO; the very fact Anet is coming out now (before official preorders) and showing us the MT system means they have ALOT of faith that the core game will be kick ass and cash shop will be gamer friendly. If they thought it might upset alot of people they might have tried to hide it until release or beta without NDA.... other companies have tried such tricks after all, some even worse (swtors 'wierd bug' where cancel sub button didnt work on the day before free month was finishing comes to mind).
As i said in the above post, the company will be living off box sales. Why would they risk people not preordering if they knew the system was dodgy? The very fact they come out with this info right before the 10th says a massive deal about them as a ethical, gamer friendly company.
With no endgame gear progression/treadmill, and no items in the cashshop that resemble winning stuff like ENCHANT ITEM: +50 uber skills where the hell is the p2w???
Is they stick to the promise, you should NEVER EVER EVER run into someone in WvWvW and get dominated by them because they paid for stuff. What will happen is that they will dominate you because they are better players, end of.
Also, you do realise that the system allows you to purchase gems with gold, meaning you can buy everything in the cash shop by gold grinding anyway. The model is really pay 2 be lazy, nothing more, nothing less.

Console version confirmed. If they manage to do a good port quickly, they will be in for a big chance for GOTY.
