No one said they aren't, it was a bad move on their part, and the main reason why the game flopped. It's really hard to get people to come back to a game after a bad launch.
They have fixed most of the issues however, added in some anti-hitching code, as well as pre-compiled shaders, so the game runs a lot smoother than it used to.
You need a decent gaming computer to play this game. It was designed for top end computers back when it was made.
According to the developer philosophy, they assumed they could force a massive gaming revolution, much like what happened when everyone had to buy dedicated video cards to play EQ back in 1999. So, they designed the engine with future hardware in mind.
If you have a decent gaming rig, you can run the game on balanced settings, but as of right now you still need a top end computer to run everything on max.
I'm not sure what you have going on, but I've been playing for almost a month now, and I haven't experienced one single crash. There are occasional bugs with the UI or rendering, but the commands "/reloadui" or "/flush all" fix those easy enough.
I swear this dude is stalking me. He did a CMA for LotRO when I was playing that, one for DDO when I was playing that, and now I'm currently playing Vanguard.
I just started playing about a week ago, and I'm having a blast. There are a ton of people on the newbie isle asking all sorts of questions. The free trial is only 2 gigs, so at least check it out for yourself.
