Newest patch notes Star Wars: The Old Republic highlight bug fixes

@SirUrza

How repugnantly ignorant...
Many people take holiday across the Christmas period and the new year. So yes this downtime was slap bang in the middle of what would be prime time for many EU players.

@Evo5537

I get that it has to clash with someones time, especially when its a global patch, but 3.5 hours earlier so that it cut US time short as well as EU (and presumably makes it better for the drones applying the patch) would have been better.

For the future, it is imperative that EU and US have separate patch times.. from the beta invites I already feel like a second class citizen to BW/EA.

Also, what the shit is up with hourly updates to say that they will update in an hour? Are they REALLY still developing the patches as they install them?

7+ hours downtime for the most minor of fixes, slap bang in the middle of EU prime time holiday season...

Not a great start, but not the worst...

SWTOR beta participants log one meeeeellion hours of testing

@Jwheeler

Its not a case of Needing to grind, just that from my experience, I didnt even have the option.. Sometimes I like to switch off my brain, stick something in VLC in a corner of my screen and just kill crap for an hour or so without having to feel like the saviour of the universe all the time.

Its like being pumped through a tube.

Yeah kinda sucks that you can't even attempt to find a nice little quiet grind spot to avoid the trample, but the truth is, the story grabs you by balls and doesn't let go... It seems that every single NPC in the game is attached to a quest with zero mob overflow for just pure xp.

The Daily Grind: When have you been Good Samaritaned?

When playing WOW, I started a new char and got up to about 60 and while heading out into Hellfire Peninsula, A fellow Alliance helped me fight off a gank, so we teamed up and ran a few quests together, sharing loot and comparing gear, just chatting about the game and giving advice to each other.... Was a really cool experience.

Even better when we started talking about our main characters, and it turned out it was a guild mate who was also levelling an alt lol!

Small world after all =)

Ailing? I didnt even know it was released!

I signed up for beta access and the newsletter, and heard nothing at all.
No wonder its struggling... Bit of exposure would go a long way...

Might try it F2P but will not drop cash on this

EVE Evolved: Learning to let go

Jul 17th 2011 6:28PM (Massively)
In my search for a replacement MMO after finally kicking the WOW habit, I went back to EvE. And she welcomed me back like a very understanding wife, forgiving me for my past transgressions, but very sternly laying down the rules for our relationship rehabilitation.

I read about Exploration, and was immediately drawn to this, so found some good net resources, and trained my way up to be able to scan sites, figuring that this would appeal to my solo style, and MAN did it work!

After one month, I had 220mil isk, which was in no way a capped figure... that was done through casual play while I was producing my undergrad project for my computing degree, so I could have easily made 2 or 3 times that figure.

The next month was even better... 600mil, bought a plex, and suddenly EvE was a F2P game for me.. I could easily afford the isk cost of a plex every month for as long as I wanted to play.

But there my interest died... I felt as if I had "beaten" the game.. or at least devalued it to such an extent that I no longer could be bothered to log in to even set skills training...

But the real kicker for me was that from day 1, I was in 0.4 and lower sec space. Unless you are stupid, clumsy or just downright retarded, there is pretty much zero chance of you getting killed in EvE if you choose to deny people that opportunity. And when I actually got into my scanning set up cov ops ship, It may as well have been a single player game, as red blobs had no meaning at all any more.

For a sandbox, there seems to be too many ways to make money and avoid risk to appeal to the true hardcore gamer, and still too steep a curve for the casual that doesnt want to spend 20+ hours reading up on game material to be effective.

Make a choice, stick with it.

MMObility: My iPhone versus my Android

Jul 13th 2011 4:22PM (Massively)
For elements such as "Ease of use", "Accessibility" and all those other lovely hip catch phrases that I personally don't really care about, the iPhone will win every time.

The only problem is, is that the framework that developers have to work with is pretty well restrained.. Where as Android, you install the relevant framework for your favorite IDE and off you go developing!!

An article I read recently claimed that you should always develop as if 90% of your user base were idiots.. Personally I believe Apple take that figure to 100%, which is why its so easy for anyone in the world to use...
And as one responder to the article stated "If you develop better applications for idiots, the world just makes better idiots"
