The Virtual Whirl: Linden Lab goes back to basics

Back to the basics of quality, industrial, economical and sustainable ways, not back to job-losing legacy ways, is the meaning of the article title...

"Too late you didn't understand that before you hired Mark Kingdon"

SL needs a change manager, and not a legacy manager. To my knowledge, Mark Kingdon is such a change manager.

If you want to put further jobs at peril keep calling for legacy ways. Competitors have demonstrated how using the use case approach and how viral outreach to the mass market is acheived by using Facebook, so there is deductively no base for legacy ways.

"Rosedale says that the company has "lost the lead", but it isn't clear who or what it might have been lost to, though it is implied that it is a matter of a lead in technology. It's critical, Rosedale says, to vastly shorten release-cycles and incorporate community-feedback, a process which he indicates will start next year, after the attack on lag and crashes."

If you read the Thinkbalm study, which btw was sponsored by LL, it becomes very clear why SL has lost the lead. Thinkbalm compared 19 virtual world vendors using the use case approach:

These competitors have meanwhile excelled further by focusing on the use case method...

For virtual educators and training firms, this means...

Virtual Education Marketing

Education Marketing Group in Facebook

Thus, this all above also makes Facebook the present choice media for viral outreach at the moment...

All in all, these approaches are consistent with the implementation of the Virtual Quality Management principles Sustainability and Continuous Improvement (and Kaizen).

Thus, the implementation of business-as-usual IT Service Management approaches... a mere domestic and belly-button in-world focus is obsolete...

So every virtual business plan must extend its marketing system boundary lines to include an out-world (and consequently a mixed reality) approach, thus making the Out-World Newbie (with his problems, needs, requirements, and preferences etc.) the "target client" of any endeavour.

"In the coming weeks, Linden Lab is planning to change registration, and possibly completely do away with the welcome/tutorial areas, instead bringing people directly to the locations, events, and content that have drawn them into registering for Second Life."

This means the Residents burden the Marketing Mix obligation towards attracting and acquiring Out-World Newbies, and establishing outreach to the mass market...
