I found myself having a hard time going back to my normal mmo after playing this.. at first I was underwhelmed but after getting some skills well the game is fun. I think it's too bad the haters have the ears of so many. It's worth a look at least. An unbiased look.(as hard if not impossible as that is to find)
Here's the thing. I have only so much time. I have no interest in any sort of raiding unless it's on demand aka WoW's new raid finder. I will not promise a night(or more) to a guild every week. I've been there done that it's generally not good mixed with an otherwise busy life. On the other hand I'm not bored of mmos.. I'm just careful about my money and I don't "need" them. So right now I find myself without a sub.
That could change tomorrow, next month, or next year. I've full access to LOTRO and when GW2 comes out I'll be there. That's not even mentioning all the great f2p games out not mentioned. L2, EQ2, AoC, DDO, GW(still need to finish this), and a few of the hopefuls like age of wushu. Also I do keep a watch on Rift, SWTOR(loved the game but decided to give it time to grow), WoW(the main thing is is some of the old chara models.. in 04 they were already behind the ball.. now I have a hard time getting over them), and Aion. I'll make a judgment call on Tera when it reaches ob. I've lots of things to do other than gaming.. sometimes I just feel like doing one thing over the other.
You guys don't have to worry about them selling "raid gear". Companies know that would kill any real end game but anything below would be a "possiblity" though turbine is doubtful go too far there.
There are three things that could happen here to spoil this game terribly.. poor localization.. through the roof shop($80 monocle anyone?)... or just plain ol it's not a quality product. Still I personally would love to explore this piece of fantastical history. It's beautiful I'll say that.. and that counts for a lot to me.
also after listening to your commentary.. yes L2's raid bosses were all open world.. now we've got some instancing but at one point everything was 100% in the world. Also I kind of find it odd you saying that the economy isn't player run... when I played(2004-2008) the only way besides killing a major raid boss(requiring 100+ players) was crafting.. I'm back now and a bit out of the loop but as I understand players still craft the best armor.
You've just scratched the surface as far as beautiful spots to explore.. take a look at Anghel falls.. it's still one of the most striking spots in games I've ever seen.
Have to say I care about this game(and I was ambivalent until recently) and until you get your hands on it the "too little too late" argument holds no water. They're taking their time to develop the title.. any other game and it would be applauded. Here not so much.
Honestly this is probably the most western korean MMO I've ever seen.. and probably why the koreans didn't really like it. Too easy to level.. too little pvp emphasis that sort of thing. By most accounts it's a good game that needs developing and that's exactly why it's not out. Smart choice I'd say because all the people here would be complaining about "lack of content" at end game if it were out here now. Has little to do with competition they want this game to succeed. They don't want to recreate the same issue that L2 had and Aion had in releasing too early here. Also I'd love to see real metrics when people say "Almost dead" sounds sensationalist and rather troll like.
@(Unverified) You really don't know what your talking about(at least it's not up to date) Right now you can get from 1-40 in less than five hours.. I've leveled from 73-75 in three days(shocking I know) playing casually. Honestly I'm having a hard time looking at any other game than L2 right now.. loving it to death. Even the rather close release of SWTOR isn't really succeeding in turning my head. Seriously considering canceling my reorder so I can play L2 in peace.
