To get the true feel of PvP in this game you really need to be level 50, but BGs are fun so why not. Battlegrounds are a simple version of the RvR experience, mainly because of the limit on skills and abilities at lower levels. I don't know if you have it on your quick bar but there should be a /sprint ability that uses up your endurance, the game should have told you that. It can be helpful to sprint out of a bad situation. I used to play a lot of stealthers and I would tag a clothy, cloak, then run towards the clothy's group, then jet left or right to throw them off. Each class has its own strategy and that's what you should follow. I wasn't a big fan of the Skald, but I know there are people out there that are, and have some great tactics for you. People can still attack you when they are rooted, Mez stops working when you attack the target, and stun is awesome. If you have abilities that slow the target or stun them for even 1 sec, you should learn how to use them efficiently. Kill the high DPS classes first, then healers and melee. That's about all I can think of atm.
I wanted to add about the guild advice. I have made a character on every realm with every class and I have only been in 3 guilds. DAoC guilds are not really throw away guilds. Most of the people playing DAoC have been playing for a long time and have their niche groups. Back in 2010 I re-subbed and played an Enchanter up to 50 through the PvE zones, totally away from civilization and PvP. The only time I saw someone is when I was hub jumping through the portals at the PKs. Now this didn't bother me, because I was used to soloing, I rather enjoyed it. I wanted to see if I could find a guild so I jumped into PvP with my crafted gear and found a group that invited me. We chatted and killed a few Albions and they asked me If I wanted to join, and wham I was in a DAoC guild again. Most of which I befriended and could relate to.
Back in DAoC, while in a group we would say, "Tag the mob, mez the adds." I always thought mob was some short way of saying monster, but a group member informed me that it actually means, "mean old bastard." Unique mobs were always referred to as, "named mobs."
A friend of mine told me about this game (DAoC), at or around the release, and said that If I pay $15 a month I could play with him and some of his other friends online. I was like, I can play Diablo online for free with other people, so forget that. He convinced me to try it out for a month and see how I like it. My experience was at the pinnacle of DAoC's success, which enthralled me into the game. Something about 3 huge armies standing face to face and picking people off as they ran up to a line of enemies, was an unbelievable experience for me at that time. I started paying for 2 accounts and eventually made a character for each class on all three realms. DAoC could be dead silence with no visible players and I would still love it. I spend most of my time leveling characters solo, eating up the grind. On the other hand, I would travel to the local dungeon and always find people that were willing to group. Some of my most memorable grouped experiences were in Stonehenge, Darkness Falls, and Emain Macha. I'll always love that game, and I'm kind of glad that they haven't made a DAoC 2. I wouldn't want to ruin such great memories.
The funniest I can see, are Blizzard Kidzz, Zergotchi Authenticator, and the Novels for a New Generation. The joke is, this content is not an April fool's joke, It will be future content. Hardy Har Har.
Funny you mentioned that game. After my comment, I jumped into steam and started perusing the workshop mods for Skyrim. I found this hilarious one, the macho man dragon mod. Its buggy, but funny.
I gave the game two months, but I just can't do it anymore. I got two characters up to 50 and a third feels too much like a repeat. If you like to do solo things, this game is not for you. I know it's an MMO, but sometimes I just like to do things on my own, it makes the experience feel more heroic to me. I found some of the main storyline bosses ridiculously hard, to the point of giving up. And spamming the chat channel for an hour looking for one person to come help me is not something I enjoy spending my time doing. I hope this game does well, and possibly adds content for the solo player(solo content that's not side quests and not bonus series grind fests). I didn't like the fact that when I got my trade skill up to 400/400 I couldn't make any item level 50. I have to run some hard instance a few times to get one item that was needed to craft anything lvl 50. I felt like I wasted all that time just to make nothing in the end. I canceled my sub an hour ago, and I'm going to play some single players for awhile. I guess what I'm saying is I now know 100%, that you need people to accomplish anything in this game. I like grouping sometimes, but not all the time, so this game is not for me anymore.
That's basically what I do, PvE zone hubs are great, and you can still do kill tasks along-side the main quests. If I remember correctly, you highlight a named guard and type /task and they will tell you to go kill some mobs or tell you who will give you the next kill task.
A little off the above topic, but another helpful command that I use frequently is the /where "NPC Name."; without the quotation marks. You can highlight a guard and type that command when looking for a specific NPC, the guard will point in the direction that you need to head to find the NPC.
My first MMO was DAoC and I played it for 3 years. I was so obsessed with it that I was paid for two subscriptions and normally ran two characters at once. I jumped into WoW at first release and stuck with it until WotLK. I had an off and on relationship with WoW and I played other games in the off time. At the moment, I am currently subscribed to SWTOR. I have subscribed to AO, SWG, LotRO and AoC for about 3 months on each. I have given a month of time to each, WAR, RoM, UO, EVE, GW, and Ryzom. If SWTOR went dark one day, the only game I would fall back on is my first love, DAoC.
LOL, talk about a real kick in the balls. This is depressing news, and an obvious precursor to F2P with an item mall. Why did it have to be Vampire the Masquerade? They couldn’t get the rights to the twilight series? I was interested, but this is where my interest ends. CPP looks better every month, they beat the crap out of the fans in EVE, they announce their next big thing will be release on a dated console system and now, their turning a classic dark RPG into a shopping mall with cute fashion wear. What the hell happened to the MMO genre, it’s not about games anymore, it’s about "which group to make a profit from."
I have never canceled a pre-order, but I decided to stop pre-ordering when I got burned by the Duke. You know the one we waited so long for. Stepping in a steaming pile of alien poop would have been more entertaining.
