New Darkfall development blog touches on key points
Mar 31st 2012 12:34AM (Massively)I still think of re-subbing to DF pretty often, since it gave me the most fun of any mmorpg I've played. I think DF is just basically in stasis till DF2 comes out and they pull the plug on DF.
The Daily Grind: Would you pay extra for a filtered community?
Mar 29th 2012 10:11AM (Massively)We don't need to pay "extra." The hell with that. We pay a sub and the GMs do what we pay them to do (i.e., enforce the rules, for example on a rp server, for names, etc. or on a regular server for racist, sexist, anal, homophobic in global or in abuse of trade channels). How about that?
The Daily Grind: Should new expansions include old expansions?
Mar 19th 2012 8:34AM (Massively)Why? Can you support your assertion? I think I'm being rationale here and I'm open to a rational rebuttal. But just an unjustified blanket statement that in your opinion my comment is inane seems somewhat lacking.
Let's see what you've got Yarg2011.
The Daily Grind: Should new expansions include old expansions?
Mar 19th 2012 8:22AM (Massively)It would be more accurate to ask "do you want," and the answer would be yes. But "should" has nothing to do with it, where the rule is supply and demand. If people pay for new expansions that don't include old expansions, then of course, that is what you will get more of.

Mar 14th 2012 11:03AM (Massively)The Daily Grind: How much grouping should be required in a game?
Mar 11th 2012 10:04AM (Massively)It is still possible to group, of course, but it is a lot harder and takes up more unproductive time winnowing through the undesireables. There are a lot in popular games these days. For example, in a game I have been playing recently, you can buff strangers and they can't be bothered to return buff you. I know I sound like an old fart, and I am, but just a couple of years ago even, it was just common practice to buff someone else if you could and you ran into each other out in the wilds. Now I sometimes buff, and before they can run too far away if they don't buff me, I send a tell asking for a buff, just to experiment. In this particular game, after asking, I get a buff 50% of the time.
In groups, you get a lot of spacebar jumpers and they only care about their lootz. It makes me sad and I am very close to cancelling this game.
Grouping should make accessing certain content easier, like in RL. But someone who is truly clever and resourceful should be able to find a way to solo it if they figure out some kind of trick. People should not be arbitrarily banned from content just because they are not in a group. It should be hard to solo, but possible.
Of course, grouping is better, but because of the blind rush for cash these days, quantity of players trumps quality of community. Recent games seem not to care about giving sufficient tools to promote community. I am thinking of a specific new game, which I will not mention, but which many readers will know.
