Totem Talk: Restoration shaman buffs and debuffs in Mists of Pandaria

Mar 29th 2012 3:39AM (WoW)
The bottom line is that they want all roles to have the same amount of buffs. So if having an above-average number of buffs/debuffs was a selling point for you with the Shaman (as it was for me), you'll be disappointed.

The Daily Grind: Are MMO players tired of beefcake?

Mar 26th 2012 9:44AM (Massively)
As long as beefcake remains an option, I'm happy. I certainly prefer it as a default to the effeminate look.

The Soapbox: The hidden perils of Guild Wars 2's microtransactions

Time is the major factor in determining MMORPG achievements, not skill. Guild Wars 2 is not going to change this. And money is going to buy time.

Whatever achievement you're proud of, someone who spends money can do it faster/easier.

Whatever reward you're working towards, you can spend a bit of money to get it right now.

Funcom stock price could 'double or triple' depending on success of The Secret World

Mar 8th 2012 3:16AM (Massively)
@Irem There are plenty of people who only commit to one MMORPG at a time. Much as I was looking forward to The Secret World (modern day setting, yay!), if both are launched at the same time I'll have to go with GW2 instead (game mechanics, more friends playing, etc.).

The Daily Grind: Would you play another Ultima MMO?

No.

The magic was in the community, not the game. You can't recapture that with today's MMORPG community.

Choose My Adventure: Da udder half lives

Regarding quest texts: I like them a lot better on the Order side. I'm a roleplayer, but slowly got conditioned out of reading quest texts during WoW. I find that on the Order side, some of the quests actually grab my attention again.

My server is also pretty blessed when it comes to active T2/T3 RvR, though the popping of scenarios is indeed extremely rare.

Bottom line: roll Order on a crowded server for a much better WAR experience :)

Flameseeker Chronicles: Back to (the other) basics

They've broken with so many Guild Wars 1 conventions already, and commented that while the games share some philosophical similarities, they will be separate games.

Looking to Guild Wars 1 to see how things will be in Guild Wars 2 has very little value, I'd say.

NCsoft sued for making Lineage II too darned addictive

Aug 20th 2010 10:18AM (Massively)
Tough one. I'm not completely against a label of some kind. I'm very glad games like WoW weren't popular when I was in highschool, it could have been quite damaging.

Sure it's people's own responsibility, but a warning would be fair. We do it for other potentially dangerous products.

The Daily Grind: What's your MMO fear?

Aug 16th 2010 8:08AM (Massively)
The superiority of the specialist class/role.

Seems that whenever MMOs implement interesting hybrid classes, they eventually get changed to "choose what kind of specialist you want to be" fake hybrids under pressure of the fans.

It takes all the fun out of character building if the only viable choice is the one where you're the best at a single specific thing. I hope Guild Wars 2's removal of the dedicated healing class will finally fix this, but I wouldn't be surprised if MMO players found a way to create a new holy trinity in that game.

@Joker, SWTOR will be an open "seamless" world as well, like WoW.
