@EvilCartographer "The people, though, have got to be the saddest, angriest, most obnoxious subset of gamers that I have ever had the misfortune of interacting with."
Totally agreeing. Its totally annoying when in a practice mode some people begin bitching because i don't follow an optimal build or playstyle, because i want to try something different (like AP Tristana or AD Taric). Its practice game for a reason!
Its even more sad when people bitch about "kill stealing", when in a 2v2 encounter.
I know, ingame reporting might seem ineffective, but it is actually looked into by employees of Riot Games, so it is not a waste to report really annoying players.
I played Rift for a while after launch, and had a real great time. I stopped playing after 1.4 since it got a bit boring, but I will definitely resub after they add a few more content patches.
Meanwhile I tried a lot of different MMO-s, including trying WoW again, but Rift feels superior to every one of them, it just has a bit less content that the old ones, and I'm missing some of the more "vanity" stuff from WoW, like fishing and cooking (or the pokemon system from the new expansion). It is a bit too focused on combat and a bit more combat.
On the other had Rift has this artifact collecting minigame, which is just plain addictive :p
Warhammer Chaos and Dark Elf are evil. Not misunderstood, but the mass murderer/child killer/backstab&poison style evil. As fun as it sounds, it wasnt exactly that interesting.
A few things that are in rift, and not in wow: - artifact collection minigame (no, dont bring up archeology please, it is not the same) - diverse soul system, i dont find it boring, i find it totally exciting to tinker with new builds - invasions (tho i wish they would be more meaningful for the lvl50-s) - wardrobe system, the option to dye your clothes - exploration playstyle gives rewards(puzzles, hidden loot, artifacts)
What i find it is lacking a bit: - not diverse enough endgame content - world, graphical style is less characteristic
In warhammer online i found some desolate place, where a strange machine (kinda like a steam engine) tortured something human-shaped, still moving figure repeatedly (i think it kept slamming to an anvil or so). It was really disturbing and creepy. Also still in the same game i found that there were live goblins tied to some dwarven cannonballs, ready to launch.
I do not like forced realism (your character dies if you dont eat for example), but i like mechanisms that give you small bonuses if you behave somewhat realistically. Logging out in the inn gives you xp bonus, or eatig gives you a small buff for a time.

The Daily Grind: How do you recapture the wonder of MMOs?
Apr 29th 2011 10:19AM (Massively)i disagree
if one wants to reproduce the success of pacman, he can't just build another pacman 30 years after the original, that simply doesnt work that way
