The Firing Line: DUST 514 newsplosion edition

Mar 30th 2012 1:13PM (Massively)
"That vision includes some sort of survival mode that Laurino likened to the zombie-fests commonly found in Call of Duty and its many imitators. Instead of ravenous brain-sucking undead, though, the DUST version will feature ravenous brain-sucking rogue drones straight out of New Eden's extensive mythos."

That sounds immensely interesting. Though I'd rather be fighting "real" zombies--the Sansha ones--on perhaps a raid mission of invading one of their Battlestations ;)

EVE Online declares war (more efficiently)

@anduz

I think that's a head-in-sand approach of seeing things (even though Eve a sand box game). They are participants of Eve's economy and they (maybe) pays CCP for their subscription.

Provided many "small" corps are created by individuals with intention only use them to evade taxation, there are legitimate small corps that house close-knit group of friends, or maybe future megacorps that are just starting; it's hard to tell them apart.

The system was pretty broken and the main issues are not fixed in this change. The change gives better protection for large corps, such as eve uni, against wardecs from small and alt corps with the intention to shut down the larger corp's activity.

The patch changes so it will be relatively easier to (somewhat indefinitely) have wardecs on small corps, who are less likely able to afford hiring mercs or have a bunch of friends waiting to help them. It doesn't change the dreaded neutral RR scenarios that has been plagued Highsec engagements. And lastly, it doesn't change the fact that the wardec system will still be not more meaningful than a tool to grief.

@Pharaoh

Pretty much this. As a chairman of CSM, his action is the very antithesis of his position. The CSM is not only a intermediate platform between the players and CCP, it's also a showcase for CCP and the Eve player as a whole. Removal from CSM is a suitable (minimal) punishment for him.

Great power (or fame) comes with great responsibility. Some need to learn it the hard way.

The Soapbox: The hidden perils of Guild Wars 2's microtransactions

Mar 21st 2012 3:54PM (Massively)
Gw2 and its predecessor requires purchase the game box in order to play, so a lot of "gaming the system" can be curbed if ANet enforces a good banning procedure. I don't know exactly how RoM handles payment options other than its cash shop, but the problems listed here can easily be contained.

war on bots and unsanctioned RMT will always find a way to exist. money going to the devs is always better than going to the bits bots that pollutes the game.

It's a good system as PLEX is a good system for Eve Online.

Of course it also depends on what exactly are in the cash shop, and the final verdict on whether it is "fair" will be from voices of the players.
