Exclusive: EQII F2P interview with Dave Georgeson

as a long time Eq2 player, I can only see this being a bad thing for those of us on the original servers.
I'm not against the FTP model at all, but , this way is only going to lead to the emptying of servers (who's populations are pretty stagnant anyway).
All new players will be funneled to the new service (why wouldnt they? they can play for free to decide if they like the game, then just pay if they wish to continue, at no extra cost than it would be if they subbed from day 1, infact, if you look at a the options, take into account the Station cash you get and the not needing to purchase a box or client, its cheaper).
Players can transfer to the new servers, but not from them. So legacy servers will dwindle :(

Persistent zones appear on EQII's test server

EQ2wire is normally a blog I read a lot and has a lot of useful and insiteful stuff, but this time its way off base and innacurate.
This will, in no way, stop people from doing exactly what Feldon is saying will stop. Zoning in, killing the trash, zoning out and back in so it respawns.
All of these zones have always had a lockout timer. Some set the timer the instant you enter, some as soon as you kill anything, most as soon as you kill a named mob.
This has not changed, but now, if something occurs and you have to leave any pof the zone shalf way through, you can re-enter a day or two later and continue where you left off.

That all being said, if you are after 'fast grind' xp, there are far, far better places to go anyway.
In the same time you spend in these zones, you can earn much more xp and have a lot more mobs available in many other places.

EQ2 nerfs Qeynos and Freeport starting areas

considering they almost all have their character names splashed across their signatures, its not hard to access players and see just what characters they have and on what accounts.

EQ2 nerfs Qeynos and Freeport starting areas

May 31st 2010 8:11AM (Massively)
As a previous comment said, the 'epic' post was almost completely full of the same 5 or 6 people making the same comments over and over (as most 'epic' threads on any mmo forum tend to be :P )
Its also strange that when you check the charactr profiles of the biggest complainers, none of them have even started a new character in a long time, and its even longer since any of them started on the isles.
The starter isles (they havn't been called the isles of refuge for a long time) had become very dated, when comparred to the newer starter areas and do not give new players a good view of the game they are entering.
Yes, the devs could have revamped these areas, but, there are now 4 distinct starter areas and I woudl much rather see the developer time spent on other content, rather than 2 areas that will be used by new characters for a couple hours at best.

Also, the devs have also posted recently that they have plans to make the Qeynos and freeport areas a much more important area to the mid-levels and higher levels of the game, not just an area for newbies and player housing.
