Hero....without a doubt. Nothing beats the feeling of helping someone who cant help themselves. It has a much more positive impact then being Evil. Heros build enough faith in the community..that people tend to rally around the events and help each other more and more. I equate the Evil to being a freakin terrorist...no one really cares for them...no one really is your friend. The only reason people put up with Evil Villians is out of fear and that is it. Take the fear away and what do you have...a shell of a soul...zero redeeming values.

I played at launch, and I was a Fire Blaster.....it made me shed tears of Joy seeing Villians become BBQ...knowing that I made the city a better place and leaving fresh BBQ for the Rats in the Sewer...Its nice completing the Circle of Life.

My Biggest fear in any MMO is without a doubt....Guild drama....I have run most of my Guilds...between the Summer Play Decline issues...the childish bickering in Raids....the "you better do it" or I quit attitude. The only game I am yet to see one iota of crap from the community is LoTRO.

Also the dominance of WoW over the MMO world as a whole. We all seem to be waiting for the "Next Best Thing". I gave up waiting and just keep playing whatever comes out. It is Shear fun exploring new games and making new friends.

Free 2 Play is a big fear as well.....I see the logic in it business wise...but the decline in the quality of the communities suffers greatly by it.

I opened my subscriptionto this game because I heard all of the improvements made....after 3 days ..i canceled again. This game is so flawed in my opinion. Zero balance of the classes....the worst community of any game I have ever played. For a "Mature" rated game to have such a high percentage of imature is absurd. More trash in chat then the landfills of Ohio can handle.
The PvP is still gankville....no one plays with any sense of honor in regards to PvP. I have no problem with killing people....but to spawn camp shows zero class....and to kill the same person over and over again is ludicrious.
Funcom - do yourself a favor and pull the plug on this and learn from your mistakes before you release Perfect World.

I will never ever play an SOE title again....they have zero compassion for their subscribers. The marketplace is a rip off....I wanted to transfer a toon from one account I had that was inactive to one that was very active. I paid the for the transfer token...tried to use the token as instructed...then when they asked for payment history info on the inactive account wouldnt move the toon. I lost all of my payment hsitory/banking history/hard copies for all of my previous transactions in a house fire. then they wouldnt refund the token on top of it. I asked for somekind of hint as to which bank it was to give me help to search and call...nothing..nada..zilch....they can all shoot themselves for all I care

Sure....I posted my opinion as a fact....but purely on what I have witnessed in every other mmo that started as free or went to f2p. I am firm in the belief of Quality over Quantity.
Do I want fresh blood...Sure I do....but at what cost is the question. I am far from blocking the idea of people joining the game....in fact I do encourage it. The reason I started playing this game was because everything else on the market couldnt touch the community standards. When I started playing I recieved tons of help and useful insight, nothing I have ever gotten in anything else gamewise.

I hope that this does turn out OK and that turbine makes me wrong in my thoughts. the list is just too long for F2p games that are just downright aweful and I just dont want to see Rings turn into another one on that list.

and Wisdomandlore.....I am far from being an elitist.....just the opposite and that was the reason I posted what I did. I dont wish to see new people mocked when asking a simple question in advice chat...i dont wish to see the game turn into a flamefest in chat...and I fear that turning the game into f2p will do just that.

Personally I think this stinks. The current server populations ( I play on Firefoot ) is perfect for the game. The QUALITY of the community is near flawless. I have played almost every mmo out and no other games community matches passion for the game and have such respect for the lore and respect for each other. I never ever see flaming in chat like I do in every other game. n00b's actually get a respectful and helpful answers to their questions instead of being mocked.

I just think that Turbine will end alienating their most loyal customers with this move. The F2P will open the floodgates with people that wont have the respect for the game or community on the whole. I have seen it first hand in other games that went f2p and it is something that I dont want to see tarnish LoTRO.


If Turbine wishes to do this....my advice would be reserve a couple of new servers just for the f2p community where they can all stick together and leave us subscribers alone.

The other issue I have with this kind of move is the dumbing down of the game that WILL take place...not a maybe..but will. Trying to bring in more people with a f2p they will change the dynamics of the learning curve making it easier and easier to level to entice them to play the game. Talk about taking a nerf bat to a class.....when you switch to a f2p..its a nerf bat to the entire game.

My only hope is that it stays the same in both community and gameplay. If it doesnt...my Kin is already talking about what game might be next in line to play ( maybe SWTOR )

Maybe Frodo can take this plan and burn in the fires and save us all

Its a shame this is an soe title....after the problems I have had with soe...I will never ever play one of their titles again. They have zero compassion or care for their subscribers.
