Guild Wars 2's crafting system detailed and demonstrated

Aug 22nd 2011 10:51AM (Massively)
@Kaoy

You are absolutely right. If people really want to get the recipes they will be able to just looked them up on a database, HOWEVER, those that want to enjoy crafting for the sake of crafting are able to do so in an exploratory manner (which is more fun than simply finding an looting or buying an item)

Also, yes people CAN be self sufficient, but that doesn't mean most will be. To be self sufficient you've have to master multiple crafts, which is going to take you a good time investment to acquire.

"But they will need time!"
Sorry but I'm not going to pay $15/month so that BioWare can play catch-up with older MMO's. If a game can't compete with the state of other MMO's NOW then it doesn't deserve my money, specially with some many great games on the horizon.

"it just needs to be DIFFERENT than WoW but not neccessarily in terms of gameplay"
If they want my money they will absolutely need different gameplay. If I wanted to pay for a game that plays like WoW I would play WoW. It's the reason I didn't buy Rift and it's the reason I won't be buying SWTOR.

Bottomline: I don't want the same product repackaged and sold to me as a brand new product, nor do I want a lesser product when there is more polished games out there.

@(Unverified) No, BioWare DID say their combat was going to be "heroic" and "fast paced". It is clearly neither, it just has nice animations.

CCP bringing vanity item store, new currency to EVE

@axler Okay, but please enlighten me. Exactly how is this bad in any way, shape or form?

All I see is knee-jerk reactions with not some much as a hint of logic.

@Skyydragonn well considering that all store-bought items can be purchased from players for ISK, and they are confirmed to be vanity only, I don't really see the problem.

I actually think this is a very good example of MT's done right (for EVE, ofc this might not work for all games).

And if this leads to reduced subscription prices I am all for it.

@(Unverified) What begins? Fun? Choice? Customization?

@Xilmar Yes, Incarna is very good because it is improving on the most lacking aspect of the game, which is player characters and customization.

You might be a straight PvP who doesn't care for stuff like this and Incarna might not interest YOU, and that's perfectly fine, but you can't say it is a bad expansion.

This will appeal to many, many players.

SWTOR Trooper progression video lays on the hurt

I dunno what it is, but I find the in-game trailers for SWTOR incredibly boring.

The animations look stiff and the a lot of the skills seem very bland.

P.S. Yeah I know it's a beta and it probably WILL improve by launch but I can't get excited for more of the same. We already have WoW, Rift, WAR, RoM, do we really need another copy/paste MMO?

@Tom in VA

ArenaNet have said multiple times that some professions don't fit certain races perfectly and won't find such NPC's, such as a Charr Guardians or Asura Rangers, but that they are overlooking these for the sake of fun.

@Rubi

I'm gonna have to disagree about the "inconsistencies" in the Engineer's tools.

The only thing that can be considered inconsistent is the beeping mine, which I'm almost sure Anet will change due to the backlash.

The steampunk and "colonial" weapons fit into the same category, with the "primitive" weapons only being so because of simplicity. A barrel of gun powder explodes just as well 250 years ago as it does now.

@Turret Opposition

1. If there are giant technomagic golems that have their own personalities, then there is no reason why an auto-aiming turret is not feasible 250 years later.

2. Auto-aiming turrets have been done in multiple MMO's (e.g. WAR) and they haven't affected balance, so I don't know why people assume they will somehow imbalance PvP due to their inherent nature.
