sometimes its not the sheer numbers: my fav "battle" was really low key, in Westfall, waaaaay back in wow:) I traveled with 2 guildies, all on our low lvl alts when a max lvl (60 at the time) troll hunter found us and proceeded on a jolly old ganking session immediately I asked my friends to keep him busy until I could get my arena geared warrior down there from SW simply never will forget the moment when I charged him right off the horse, feared his pet and made very quick work of him simply never will forget the sweet taste of just revenge, been a pvp-freak ever since:D
@Sorithal hmm i think u might be jumping to silly conclusions there m8 i'm male, in my 30s, married, i spend 8+ hrs per week in the gym and i follow my football( soccer for u americans:P) team around each weekend(this normally involves a lot of pints and the occasional brawl here and there) yet i almost never play male chars in any game, my mains are always female i rather think guys that are 60kg with glasses tend to play big, strong males in mmo-s - so at least in the virtual world they can feel big and strong - for once.. FLAME ON!!!
@Dynty ya but u dunno how to fly them i mean u have the ingame skillset, but u don't have any real experience and any good pvp-er will take u down on first sight there's ur imba ship gone, ur plex gone and u prolly end up bitching b@llshit on forums...
@Brendan Drain Brendan let me say first I normally luuv ur articles:D
however I'd join the naysayers on this one, also pointing out that comparing LOTRO or any other of that sort of game is completely ignoring the (one of the) main attractions of EVE : single server setup
LoTRO or DDO can easily set up as many additional servers as needed to cater for the influx of f2p folks, but I somehow doubt that it is even technically possible for CCP, or any other company for that matter to log in an extra unknown_times_10k or so players without unbelievable LAAAAAGGGGGG, thus it would completely ruin the experience for old and new players alike
paying sub or buying PLEX, at the end of the day each and every EVE player currently pays CCP (in the case of PLEX based players, have someone else to pay CCP for them), based on my experience, being a newish player I'm yet to see any evening really sporting below 40k concurrent players, which tells me that we have a steady and dedicated playerbase
no disrespect for f2p players, but that is just the way I like my game to be, if you're out for quick thrills EVE probably is just not the game for you
I only play for 4 months and at that stage I still have the jukebox on all the time having said that, in other games that period is a week or so before I switch it off and than you always have EVE Radio as well:)
EVE online in October, although I have kept an eye on it for a looong time before that it's so much different from the others i played - WOW, LOTRO, RIFT and very briefly SWTOR now - that being the fastest burnout in my 6 yrs of gaming:(
