The Daily Grind: Why don't you like roleplaying?

Jan 9th 2011 9:58AM (Massively)
The problem with role-playing in modern day MMOs is Ventrilo and/or Teamspeak. Voice chat is reality. Role-playing a character is fantasy. It is very hard for a gruff 40 year old metalhead dude to voice chat while RPing a fertile elven female cleric that speaks in-chracter (IC) about the grace of her god, such as Elune in WoW. There is no believability in the voice. It ruins the whole RPed storytelling. Reality must be separated from fantasy in hardcore role-playing scenarios to keep it believable. If you want reality, don't play games.

Perfect World shows off new dance moves plus Forsaken World class video

@notuba My mistake, I meant PWI dance emotes, not FW dance emotes.

Perfect World shows off new dance moves plus Forsaken World class video

Speaking of the cash shop, it says that many of the FW dance emotes are only from special outfits. What that means, speaking from personal experience with PWE's games, is that you can have access to a "special" emote only after you buy a non-armor cosmetic outfit from the cash shop. You will only have access to that special emote while you are wearing the special outfit. It is just one of the many ways that PWE games make you pay for aspects of the game that should be inside the game for all characters to use.

Indeed, another PWE cash shop free to download subpar game. Then again, supposedly FW will not be a grinder, but more-so a quest-driven walk in the pretty park. *picks self up from floor after laughing so hard I fell out of the chair* Only time will tell. PWE games are great if you are a tween or teen. Otherwise, they are worthless wastes of time.

I have played every PWE MMO released so far. I am not making up what I said, it has been proven to me over the past two years.

Hmm, will Beau do a Rise and Shiny on FW? I hope so.

Is Star Wars: The Old Republic four years out of date?

Jan 6th 2011 12:23PM (Massively)
@Lenn Maybe I am getting old, but I could have sworn apostrophes show possession as well as contraction (it's = it is, contracted.) No apostrophe with an s added shows plurality.

@Larry Everett You're welcome.

Anyway, this is no place for punctuation or grammar or spelling lessons, I suppose. Carry on.

Quoted from the first paragraph: '...to topple the World of Warcraft giant siting similarities between SWTOR and...'

The correct spelling is citing, not siting. You are not seeing it as a sight, you are quoting a citation aka a quotation of a published or unpublished source.

For reference, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citation

I'm just trying to help the staff and site be more professional in it's presentation.

RIFT beta events: Impressions from the staff

@Beau Hindman Oh, no no no, bud. I wasn't saying you guys are two-faced. I meant that pertaining to how the hype for RIFT goes and how the same-old copy-of-old crowd goes. Besides, I said two-faced comes to mind, not that that was how it really is, just a thought. It was how I saw it.

You guys sure reply to me a lot. I am honored. :)

Wowzers, Massively staff! With all of the positive hype found here on your site and all of the positive comments from readers, I read this article and see how much you all really dislike this game and see it as nothing more than a blatant copy of every other fantasy AAA MMO ever released. You staff members sure tell different stories based on if it's a hype piece or true feelings/opinions. Two-faced comes to mind. Not that I'm trying to talk shit to the staff, but you have butchered the game before it is even released in this one article.

Basically, if you like WoW or EQ2 or AoC but are tired of still playing your current fantasy linear hotbar button masher, then try this one, it works well and is pretty. If you are looking for a PvP game or something any sort of sandboxy, look elsewhere. If you want different and/or new and/or next-gen, wait for TOR and/or GW2.

Meh, I almost pre-ordered today. Now I feel like turning off my PC and never being interested in a MMO again.

@Rubi It is NOW, but sure as hell wasn't there yesterday when I posted that first comment. Nor was it there when the Wurm stream was going on.

Admit it, you're a day late. :)

The absolute worst and fanboyish poll results I have ever seen. Two thumbs down.

Interesting. You need to show this article on your main page for the entire week instead of letting it slip to page 2 later on Monday, then further and further away from being found or even remembered. You need some sort of contents section or links area. This is a DAILY event, so this should be prominently displayed on the main page of Massively aka on massively.joystiq.com, at the top or on the right on its own section for each day's stream.
