FYI could you have confirmed the Box Art story. According to Curt that is NOT the official box art for the Kingdoms of Amalur. It's just an Amazon.com mock up
This is absolutely not vaporware. We're talking about a company that has a SP game near ready for release and has shown enough of what they're doing to get the State of Road Island to invest nearly 60 million in their company. If you've actually followed this game at all you would already known all of that. You would also know that Curt won't talk about this game in specifics because it's still a work in progress and he does not want to be mentioned in the same breath as Brad McQuaid when it come to making claims about this game that won't be there at release. He is paranoid to a fault about this. Drives me nuts.
People have a right to voice their opinion even if it's one you don't want to hear. I am not going to bash this game. But I will also not play it again. The experience from the developer left me with a sour taste and I doubt if I will ever play another game from NCsoft again. A lot of what I read as criticism here is well deserved and informative for folks thinking about trying the game out. That's fair and why people come to sites like this one. to become better educated especially before shelling out $50.00 on something. The post by Disataste was very well written and IMO 100% accurate.
I have to admit, when I was in my 1-30 phase of this game I thought it was going to be the next big thing. Then came the slow leveling grind, the lack of reward for hours spent grinding away at the only dungeon the game had to offer for my level. But I stuck with it, promises of updates and patched kept me logging in. Once I got into my 40's at became obvious, this company did not care about the NA/EU player base. Sure there was lip service from the folks who's jobs were on the line. But there has not been any real substance to anything they have ever promised. In my mid 40's I walked away from Aion and from NCsoft.
They have made a game that is popular for their player base (Koreans) and that is good for them. The game however will never be anything more than that.
Without a doubt one of the least grindy games I have ever played is DDO. It's too bad that game was so bad at release and the character graphics are so horrible. If they ever redo that game with a better UI and decent character creation choices they would really have something special. It's the kind of game that you can easily lose track of time in.
to the above poster. Hit Ariel sometime and come again. it takes like 30 seconds to log onto any server and look at the abyss map.
The "Do you even play this game" commentary came from this quote.
"Currently, Asmodians outnumber Elyos on four of the game's fourteen servers, with Elyos holding the upper hand on three servers and the remaining seven showing an even 50/50 split. Asmodian legions outnumber their Elyos counterparts on all fourteen servers, in some cases rather handily. "
As I said anyone actually playing the game and looking at the abyss map (or showing up at a fort siege to get steamrolled 3:1) can only scratch their head and say "What!"
I don't know about this survey. I find it pretty hard to believe DAoC and SWG are on the list and EQ2 is not.
As far as DDO is concerned, it is a fun game even as outdated as the graphics are. There is no amount of eye candy (AION) that can compensate for a good dungeon crawl.

May 10th 2010 12:09PM (Massively)The leveling path is unbelievably easier for the Elyos and they pretty much dominate every server except for maybe 2 or 3.
