Jan 3rd 2011 8:40PM (Massively)Captain's Log: Spending time with the Foundry beta
Dec 17th 2010 12:43AM (Massively)The foundry doesn't allow you to assign any specific loot, though random chance for a drop is the same as it is for anywhere. Yes, I believe you get the same xp/skill points from killing the mobs as you do any other, equal level mobs, but honestly, leveling in STO is a breeze.
Honestly, I don't see any real way, after spending about 10-15 hours working with it, where it could be used to actually exploit the game.
So what the Foundry will be is a nice little distraction, a tool for RP, and for Fleets to organize events around. It kinda harks back to a previous Capt Log, it may not make STO a sandbox, but it puts a little beach next to the water rides (Fluidic Space?) we can mess around with our own little ideas for a while.

Sep 17th 2010 4:09PM (Massively)They've done a great job with the Source engine, and the shiny on the characters, NPCs, and the destruction physics are impressive. On the other hand, I'm having Counterstrike flashbacks from the dungeon environments of the Perilous Ruins.
I'd also love to see what they could have done with a full world environment, and I wonder how long till I'm sick of the town/lobby and dungeon system.
I think this will keep me good for a long while on a desire for sword and fantasy action, as more scifi MMOs are released in the future, especially that it's ftp.
I'd suggest everyone to give it a try, if you can get a key. The tutorial itself is great, and a must do experience.
