Atari owns the DnD / NWN IP , why would Cryptic still develop Neverwinter?

Mythos readying daily quests for June release

May 27th 2011 4:11PM (Massively)
I'm still a little befuddled as to whether this game is even live! How's this for bad marketing! You got to their site www.mythos.com and are greeted with CLOSED BETA notices. So people say somewhere in europe it's already going , but it's like i'm playing cloak and dagger here. Maybe Massively should consider doing some proper journalism here with links to where in hells are these things [as mentioned in this article] are happening, because it sure ain't happening on www.mythos.com .

So as far as i'm concerned this game is in some sort of beta which makes this article rather silly...

The Daily Grind: Does SOE owe you in-game compensation?

May 16th 2011 9:28AM (Massively)
I just noticed SOE is giving me 45 days free gametime on EVERY MMO i have ever played with SOE. Whether i was subbed before the event or not, that's pretty nifty. It implies i can go play SWG/EQ2/DCUO/Vanguard for the next 2 months for free.

RIFT world event extended due to technical difficulties

Apr 11th 2011 2:27AM (Massively)
I'm glad they delayed this for a week. I was right there when it went down on the european servers and i'm sure had the USA received this in the current state there would have been mass suicides and all kinda of /ragequits over a silly event.

At least i now know how many players Rift can handle on screen and in the same spot without the server going down.

Phase 2 wasnt' very long, our server did complete it with bugs and all. My issue was not the "technical" difficulties, but rather the rather brainless boss fights [of no real consequence] in each zone. They never felt dangerous and it felt like i'm attacking the Gates in Warhammer and it had 15 million HP and no defenders.

Phase 3 had the entire server stacked like sardines in a fortress filled with lvl 50 elites , while the event NPCs are having their cup of tea [and all of us standing there watching them] . This one did reset a bunch of times for us and considering how long these bosses take to go down, it's not very amusing when it happens. Again, i never had the feeling this boss [and the 9 generals] was dangerous with 500 players right there [and alot of them weren't even lvl 50] .

I guess Trion will learn from this. I think there is better ways to run Phase 2 than what they did , but i'm sure they'll find the feedback on it soon enough. (i.e. i think phase 2 should be repeated daily for a week, and only once it has been beaten x-times should phase 3 starts, as it were you could not really lose Phase 2, it would just take longer ) .

"Solid one-two punch": Trion responds to account hacks

Mar 20th 2011 2:17AM (Massively)
I can tell you why this happens so much more now.

1. Account Name = Email Address
2. Email Address are used to unlock, to change password to do whatever.
3. Email Address are to be found in any database on the web, every site, every game, everything will contain your email address.

So once a hacker picks up a database of forum members, it's a matter of time before they are able to use email address to get into any game that using it as your account name.

The Coin Lock is only moving the hack "point of entry" from Rift authentication to your Email account.

Anyway, i assume everyone is aware of Google's 2-step Authenticator for gmail? It works via your phone to generate these codes [without going via an email system] . So unless Trion considers "hiding" our email addresses and giving us new account -names- , they will probably have to end up with a full blown authenticator like Blizzard.

...and Blizzard is also making the same mistake with exposing the email address as the "login" . Hence why it's so easy to both get hacked and get spammed in your email.

Raptr report analyzes DC Universe Online players

On the other hand , If you go to Raptr and check the play time stats for DCUO there is a rather disturbing downwards "spiral" happening...and the subs have not even kicked in. It's weekend now, and the normal trend for MMOs is to go up over weekends...DCUO...well it went down...

Vindictus spreads the love with new update and holiday

Feb 4th 2011 1:15AM (Massively)
@ShivanSwordsman

No i don't realize because we can't play and nor is Nexxon very upfront about all this. Massively is not asking this question either and continues to report on little updates ignoring the big elephant in the room. So all i/we can do every month when the Vindictus article pops up is to complain about the regional restriction and hope someone goes and ask the right people why and WHEN and why it takes so long (is the game doing poorly maybe ? )

When Codemasters were delaying LOTRO F2P in europe like this, every week massively was on their case finding out these tihngs [why, when] .

@Tanek

Yes, i'm aware of the way the connection use your connection like a P2P network, so it is understandable that they don't want weak/slow connections breaking things.

That said, i can't imagine it is a licensing thing. Either they don't have the capacity to run it in europe or they can't find a partner to do so...that's about all i can think of...regardless it's still fail cakes for everyone outside the USA.
