Single server technology sounds interesting, has potential. I hope they'll use a sortlike system for TSW too.

Guild Wars 2 beta questions: Answered!

@Fumbler This sounds kinda odd.

From an earlier interview, they stated that areas have a population cap, so you can't have 500 or 1000 players in an area (just guessing, that limit cap might be at 150-200, who knows)
So that means you either get instances of that area whenever that cap is reached, or you have to be dropped into that area on another shard/server. Or you're forbidden to enter overcrowded areas, but that last one seems even more unlikely.

So, it's either instancing or overflow areas (not just servers) whenever an area/zone has capped in allowed player numbers.

@Jef Reahard but you've admitted many, many times that you're more a sandbox kinda guy and hate/dislike story in MMORPG's, so any kind of more immersive questing, like here in TSW or Personal Story in GW2 won't just be your thing anyway.

Frankly, if possible I'd vote for you staying away from doing articles about themepark MMO's in all cases, but that's me.

@Cyclone Jack

It isn't that out of place: each society has their own way of steering you as the character into a vision of the future (the Tokyon underground starter area)
- the Templar send you talking to a crazy madman who sends you into a vision
- the Illuminati strap you and drug you in order to send you into the vision of the future
- the Dragon make you expand your mind at the moment of bglissful ecstacy in kind of a tantric way and send you thus into the vision of the future.

I thought that it was appropriate for each of the societies, but that's imo.

Funcom stock price could 'double or triple' depending on success of The Secret World

I'm actually glad that people have downtuned their expectations and are keeping their expectations and enthusiasm in check. Means there'll be a lot less of locust type MMO hoppers at launch, the kind that often has unrealistically hyped expectations and at the slightest sign of boredom or dislike of a feature jump to the next MMO.
Means there'll be more people ingame who know what they're there for.

"I'll confess that I'm a bit worried that some bugs won't be fixed and that some polish will be lacking from some areas"

I'm curious, what kind of bugs or lack of polish did you encounter?

The Daily Grind: Have media impressions affected your excitement level for Guild Wars 2?

Feb 21st 2012 9:16AM (Massively)
@Traptz DOn't be an idiot. It's obvious that there's a massive hype around GW2, anyone can see that. It doesn't matter whether it's bc of press releases from the game company or bc fans are circle jerking eachother into an ecstatic coma, hype is hype.

Whether a hype has a solid justification in reality, that's a subjective thing and will only be made clear after a launch.

@Graill440 Meh, typical. Moron haters gonna hate, all the time.

Get over your stupid hatred for a game you might not like, what are you, 12? Geez.

@(Unverified) What the fuck are you drinking, or talking about?

They write/post a column, therefore can be criticised.
What, suddenly everyone disagreeing with the column writer is paranoid and their own personal viewpoint and criticisms of the writer's arguments is considered 'attacking'?

Christ, you can't even disagree with an article writer's viewpoint anymore without some idiots pushing people in the 'paranoid/insanity' corner. Really mature and show of tolerance of differing opinions, good job.

@Saucelah Always a good thing, insulting other posters that don't agree with your opinion, bc it makes you look smarter than them as if other people that have different opinions aren't critical.

... see the elitist fallacy here that you spout with your arguments?
