WRUP: How is it time for PAX edition

Mar 31st 2012 12:59PM (Massively)
I'll be attending PAX East this year and this will be my first visit to this show so it should be an interesting weekend. So far, I've got plans to check out Guild Wars 2, The Secret World, and then pass by En Masse to see what this sci-fi project is all about since I dig sci-fi stuff. The rest is just lots of walking around.

For now, I'm trying a little bit of Age of Empires Online and Path of Exile beta. Not currently subscribed to anything. Just waiting for that GW2 beta key.

What do you want to know about the next Guild Wars 2 beta?

How customizable is your character after creating your character? Can I change all the bits again or is it limited?

What cons and pros are there to the theif's stealth ability? How well does it work in PvE and especially in PvP?

Will gathering items for crafting be a grind?

Is there a Looking For Group system? If so, how does it work out in relation to skills and character stats?

Will there be world/area puzzles to solve in GW2? (Like in RIFT)

What are the maximum graphic options available within GW2?

The Daily Grind: Are you an MMO hoarder?

@Nerdstick It wasn't meant to be funny. It was pointing out that I play single-player games now till new stuff comes along to hoard.

@Chapstarr Yea and that's why the number is probably a lot higher than it needs to be thanks to people like you. :P

The Daily Grind: How do you define MMO?

Jan 22nd 2012 6:09PM (Massively)
To me, an MMOG would be defined as an online game where player-made decisions are persistent and change the world, including other real players, around them. Multiplayer games don't do this. They load a scenario and then reset for a new game, which is basically how the classic MMOG quest line works for every new player. To be truly persistent would probably be impractical. I could think of all the other aspects of an MMOG, but those are the same essential aspects found in many other genres. Online persistence is the key difference in my opinion.

Guild Wars 2 developer explains updated cinematic conversations

Nov 11th 2011 4:35PM (Massively)
@Dumac
I prefer your vision, too, Dumac. Keeping the story within the world itself I find to be more immersive than a side-to-side conversation on a background like they are doing here. Keep the voice and expression in-world and get captured into the story with good atmosphere and voice acting.

Like some of the parallax cinematic stuff they've shown is cool and has it's uses, but there are times when a story needs to be much more immersive than moving painted scenes.

Oh, the anticipation. Can't wait to play it.
