EVE Evolved: EVE's Alliance Tournament IX

Jul 4th 2011 9:10AM (Massively)
Oh and really good job by the commentators, Especially Kill2 and Shadoo did a good job. But even the test-guy who i didnt expect much from, said some pretty interesting stuff between some of the final day matches.

EVE Evolved: EVE's Alliance Tournament IX

Awesome stuff in there:

Darkside vs PL.
Hydra vs PL.
Voltron vs Razor, really supricing performance by razor, GJ.
Darkside vs T0XIN, the unofficial final, really close match, top piloting and tactics.

And tnx for Duncan for the writeup on all the behind-the-scenes stuff that's normally not known to public.

And awesome work by HydraBreak winning every aspect of the game, beating both the lords of meta and respected PVP'ers.

What was the biggest price was for these guys, having the former PL-spy master whine about metagaming on the forums or 300 bazilion isk; I'm not sure :-D

EVE Evolved: Getting into PvP from day one

@nt:

Dude... They were being nice to you, you'll never be more than viable.

Since you don't recognice descision making and sense of tactics as 'player skills', you'll never be more than one of those ants sitting in a 100 man fleet, whos only role is to know the alphabet and press F1-F8 when told to (now with grouped guns it's only one key).

To see 1 guy or a small group outsmart bigger numbers, get some kills and then get away, is just beautiful - and requires loads of player skills.

SP does matter, but it does not matter that much.

EVE Evolved: It's election time in EVE online

From the vote-match maker:
"Core combat model of EVE lacks complexity and is too simple."

What?!? Eve has more options than chess, I would like to turn that around a see a game with a more complex combat model than Eve.

EVE Online Tyrannis trailer released in HD

Sad to hear that.

Thing is that some people start Eve with a huge advantage and some with a huge disadvantage. It's decided at birth.

It's not a game for everybody, the tutorial even used to say that.

Hope you find what your looking for in another game.

EVE Online contest asks how CCP could make the game more appealing to female gamers

Your definition of PVP is wrong. It is not just shooting other peoples ships that classifies as PVP. Putting 100 items on the market below build costs to scare away a nub or using your 10 alts to run insta 0.01 isk warfare against the same person is also PVP.

In fact, you can not avoid player interaction 99.9% of the time, this is how the game is designed, and it is one of the only games designed this way.

So if you do not like Eve, there is 100 other MMO's to chose from. But if you turn Eve into a cookie cutter MMO (not meant in a bad way), you take away the essence of it's uniqueness and there will be only crap and python exceptions left.

Oh and ganking is not effortless, i bet most of the people saying this would be so terrified that they would leave Eve for good when they hit -2.0 sec status - I dare you.

Removing insurance would not change anything, there would still be people who did not have a clue about risk reward. I have done about 10 freighter ganks within the last year, and think most of them would have paid off without insurance.

Best regards

One Shots: Gate camping

Actually gatecamping is a very noobish way of doing PvP in Eve.

You'll sit on a gate for an hours, kill a hauler, get raped by some competent PvP'ers that have analyzed your gang composition and brought exactly what it takes to kill you.

Sitting static on a gate is not the way to go.

EVE Evolved: Medic ships, part 2: High-end healing

Heres my experience:

The Oneiros is without doubt the least liked logistic in Eve. This is for a number of reasons. Yes i know that some ppl, CH(alliance) come to my mind, have been experimenting with cruiser sized armor gangs with Oneiros support, but this is far from the general trend.

The one you see the most, and have been for a long time is the Scimi. Scimis are both used with the different kind of HAC gangs and the BC gangs that seem to have replaced alot of the shortrange HACs and RR BS gangs... with good reason.

Due to the increasing popularity of shield-tanked BC blobs instead of BS blobs, you see more and more experimenting with basilisk used in the same way as guardians.

If you run into a RR BS gang theyll most likely be supported by some guardians. But you don't see nearly as many BS gangs today as you did a couple of years ago.
