EVE Online's Scorpion to receive graphical overhaul in Tyrannis

Feb 24th 2010 7:56PM (Massively)
I'd always loved the looks of some of the Caldair ships, but the asymmetry of many of the models always bothered me. It was tolerable, however, because I understood it spoke a lot about the utilitarianism of the Caldari State's people, even if on the most basic level the incongruity and bizarreness of many of their ships made me cringe. That's why I leaned towards majestic yet equally practical looking beasts like the Cerberus and the Rokh (oh god do I love the rokh).

I can really appreciate this new design approach because, even though they are more aesthetically appeasing, this most recent example in the Scorpion maintains the lethal, mechanical look of the race. Now the game becomes bringing the other State ships in line with this new direction, less glittering steel and cold blue glow but matte grey and futuristic.

Please do the Raven next. D:

One Shots: No way home

Actually, the destination at the other end of the EVE Gate is never specifically referred to except that it was found in some obscure part of the Milky Way. It's not likely it was found in our solar system, because by the seventy-eighth century it is said rather vaguely that our galaxy had been colonized or claimed by mankind to an unknown extent and finally, after turning against each other over scarcity of land, resources, or both, the first naturally occurring wormhole was discovered that led to the EVE system in some unknown star cluster. However, at some point after the eightieth century the gate "collapsed", leaving the EVE cluster cut off from the rest of humankind, and it wouldn't be a stretch to compare the gate to having been the umbilical cord that allowed to growing population in EVE to have access to the infrastructure of the various factions in the Milky Way. Most of the EVE galaxy left in ruins, after thousands of years, four cultures on four different worlds (among others, such as Jove and the Sleepers) finally managed to redo thousands of years of human technological advancement and then we got the Gallente Federation, the Caldari State (formerly part of the Gallente Federation), the Amarr Empire and the Minmatar Republic (formerly part of the Amarr Empire).

It is possible that the gate actually remains open, but intense bursts of energy continue to rhythmically pour out from what can only be assumed is the other side, making it for the majority of the time dangerous to venture near and permanently inaccessible. In the 234th century there was a stellar event visible from every system in the EVE galaxy coming from the galactic north, that was commonly thought of as the light from whatever destroyed the EVE Gate and continues to render the wormhole impassable finally reaching the EVE galaxy, but eventually disappeared, left unexplained.
