Ditto. I was really impressed by the defiant storyline, as well as the technical aspects of the game. I immediately bought it after launch. Couple of weeks later, i realized that it was just the same old same old.
I agree as well. Years of playing "theme park" MMOs (ugh, i hate that term, but apparently it's the standard now) have trained us very efficiently in power-levelling, gear matching and fast and efficient questing. Every new MMO that follows the same suit is downgraded by default because of that.
Sandbox MMOs on the other hand are a completely different ballgame. A perfect sandbox, in my opinion, would be one that runs some kind of a tutorial/intro theme park hybrid which eases the player into the open world and the sandboxiness within. It's like being set up with certain rules and all the tools needed, and then pushed into the world to survive.
EVE Online is similar to this, but unfortunately i feel that it's too "established" at this point (with all the giant corps and alliances ) and therefore too newbie-unfriendly. Plus it would be nice to see such a model implemented in a fantasy setting as opposed to sci-fi.
I find that GW2 hype seems to be working in a very different way than TOR. With TOR, i was extremely excited in the beginning, but it started waning as more updates came through, until i got to the point where i wanted the updates to stop.
With GW2, i started off not caring at all, since i was never a GW fan. But the closer the game is to release, i find myself actually somewhat excited about the game and willing to give it a shot.
@Khai mann It follows the same graphical style, but as for gameplay, they are very much different.
Aion follows the standardized sticky targeting - selecting a target and then using hot keys. Tera on the other hand is more oriented towards active combat - where your aim your skills at where the crosshair is pointed (like third person action games).
