A Mild-Mannered Reporter: In the case of Blasters

Jun 10th 2011 4:21PM (Massively)
I too played an Energy/Devices blaster. It was a lot of fun, but at some point soloing became near impossible and teams were a little reluctant due to the knockback and meekness of the secondary. Still, a fun combination into the 20s.

I have to disagree with the "Energy Manipulation: The melee strikes are decent but nothing inspiring" comment. Granted it has been a while since I played, but those energy melee attacks were the whole basis of the Blapper craze. As an added bonus, they all have a stun effect, which after chaining a couple of them together will lock down just about any foe.

I had a mid-30s fire/energy blaster that I re-speced into this kind of build, and it was a blast (sorry, couldn't resist the pun). Focusing on high single target damage, with the stuns as a boost, kept the aggro manageable. The fast activation times combined with SS to get in and out of trouble quickly made it a real rush to play.

The Daily Grind: What class will you never, ever play?

Aug 18th 2010 4:02PM (Massively)
No interest in class focused on healing. I don't mind having one or two in the bag, but as soon as someone else expects you to heal them after doing something stupid... just not my idea of fun.

Also not a big fan of pure melee classes. Throw in some lasting status effects, perhaps a group buff, maybe even a heal or two, then I'm up for it.

Exploring Eberron: Getting the most from Adventure Packs

This link to the DDO Forums has a really good breakdown of each adventure pack, including an overall rating, the appropreate level range, and how often you'll find people to run the quests with you. A fantastic guide

The Daily Grind: What's your free-to-play breaking point?

Mar 22nd 2010 3:25PM (Massively)
DDO''s implementation now is almost more "pay as you go" than f2p, which works just fine for me and exactly what I want (don't really feel I can play enough to justify the 15.95 per-month).

They start you off with plenty to do, but as you progress you'll find there is less and less to do for free. Sure, you could run the same quests over and over again to get to the next level, but you end up with a choice: repeat, or pay up.

This works great for the person who isn't ever going to pay regardless as well as for those (who are really the target of this scheme) who wanted to try before they buy.

"Pay as you go" isn't nearly as enticing as "free to play", but it truly is what they are counting on. Like any good drug dealer, the first few hits are always free. But, if you want to try the really good stuff....

These guys nailed it.

One million new adventurers in Dungeons and Dragons Online

The switchover and implementation is outstanding. I'm an old subscriber who came back to the game and dragged some friends along with me. I think every one of them has spent money in the store, including myself.
