The Daily Grind: Which community managers do you love?

For me it was Tork. He saved Alganon from going into the crapper more then it did. That was till he left when Smrt took over and the real train wreck happened.

I fully understand the whole "active" player base. I just see no point in publishing those possible made up numbers if in fact there is not even enough players online at various times to adventure with. Sure you can still play the game if no one is online. But what is the darn point of that?. Way to many single player games out there already.

I have enough smoke blown up my butt. Any more carbon monoxide in my body will kill the last few brain cells I have and will put me in the same league and some game developers.

You might be right, there could be users logging on to buy a pet or mount or other items. There are some gamers out there that like the collecting fact of mmo's. But most of those that I have run into like to show off to other players what they have. Sure some like to just collect in secret.

But I have my doubts that many log on to just collect pets, mounts or the other tribute items in the market. So until the data sheets are made public "which would never happen". I guess I will have to live with anger... no wait I meant to say live with their numbers.

Might be that many that log on to check on the studying. But also have my doubts. Hell my studies will not end till January 2012. Once set, there is no pont in logging on.

Not too many guilds left on both servers. Last group of gamers I saw that tried to get things going was Silent Warriors Gaming. A bunch of GREAT guys and gals. Have not heard or seen much of them lately in Alganon. Not much left if any of Old Time Gamers or Ceaseless for members. And those were the two biggest guilds from both servers.

So also have my doubts there is a lot of "active" players logging on to chat or whatever.

I guess if those numbers reflect the amount of player accounts created along with fourm account created. I could maybe believe it. Then again a lot of those accounts were created when the game was in development or during beta and have not logged on for more then 12 months. With so far a total of 5743 members on the fourms. Which most were made during beta. I can not see the whole 90k+ active users.

Yes I know most users do not create forum accounts. But even to use that number as part of your active player base is wrong. Even with those numbers you would hope to see more then 15 or so players online at various times to adventure with.

Anyhow, till I see more then 50 users online at anytime. I will not believe the whole almost 100k "active" users number game.

But that could be the anger in me typing again.

@Beau Hindman

I am sorry I have myself, friends and a few players I know from the UK and from North America. That play at various times. And even at the very peak times there is 30 players online and that is from both servers combined.

So even if there is a 10k active user base. There sure as heck should be more then 15 users online at peak times to adventure with. Even with 15 users online, you are lucky, very lucky if 2 or three are level 50 and want to go into the instances.

I myself play a good many Free to play mmo's and a lot of those have a small player base. But there is most times players online that you can bump into or adventure with.

It would be nice before big mouth game developers start talking about this and that about their games. Just maybe they should play the game from the players end. From level 1 to whatever and with no mods, cheats. Just normal playing. Then maybe they would know more about the game and it's TRUE state. Not some made up numbers game.

"If you think you have the right to exercise your otherwise misplaced Free Speech -and at will - on someone's forum - try this: do it at home and within earshot of your favorite pet, neighbor, the postman or whoever. Or better yet, go post on NeoGaf, the WoW forums or wherever like minded misfits tend to congregate - largely unchecked. Just don't do it on our forums. Understood?"

Take your own advise tough guy. And you wonder why you are the most laughed at deveolper in the game industry.

Having been one of the sorry ass people that have played the game since beta and still log on from time to time. Yes some things have changed and the game has got better. But it is still is a WOW clone. Sure they changed the interface and changed this and that. But more and more things were added to make it feel like playing WOW.

Yes it has some features that are different. But not enough to make it stand out from any of the other games. Graphics are quite nice in some spots and in others you have to shake you head and wonder what the hell?.

I actually laughed out loud when I read that they advertised in PC Gamer. Do gamers still read print that they can get from stores?. I guess some still do. Maybe spend that money on REAL ads that could get to more gamers that do not like to see the sun. "points to herself"

The game had a strong following for players that were willing to stick it out through thick and thin. It was not until the BULLY HAMMER came crashing down and we could not speak what was wrong with the game or what could be changed to make it a more appealing game to gamers. Almost all the followers are gone because of the "if you can not say anything good about the game, then don't say anything at all attitude."

So this talk about "catering to those who like and play your game." and "you simply can't afford to disregard the pre-existing gamers while pursuing others who may or may not even like your game."

I am sure I left a puddle of pee under my chair from laughing so hard. REALLY?. Tell that to the very many followers of the game that Smrt pissed off with his ego. And no those followers were not trolls. They were gamers that really really wanted the game to succeed. I could go on and on about smrt but his ego does not need it. And plus with his Google alerts that he has it must warm his heart to see his name in them alerts.

Sorry Beau as long as Smrt is the mouth piece for QOL you will always get crap comments like mine and from others. You do realize that if Tork was still at QOL or heck anyone that was half assed decent at dealing with people, almost all of the followers would still be there along with many many other gamers.

Because we were treated with some respect and could say how to improve the game in well though out comments. Not treated like some key puching monkey.

Anyhow, the game is still decent for somewhat free to play and yes worth the $20.00. But sadly like it has been said. There really is no one playing the game anymore. If you are lucky you will catch 5 to 10 players online at one time at peak hours for both the UK and North America.

Never mind the auction house. Most times it has NO items in it or there are maybe 10 items that are useless to others in the game.

Oh well. Maybe this "big" PVP Tourny will get more gamers to come over and play the improved wow clone. But I have my doubts.

Alganon adding PvP functionality

Nov 11th 2010 6:49PM (Massively)

PVP with who or what?. I have been playing on and off since beta "yes I have no life". There still is a averge of at most 10 people on at anyone time. Chck it out some time just click the "social button" and you will see all that is on for your race.

There still is and will always be preformance issues with the game, till they re-work the network code. You can be standing there doing nothing with no one in the same zone and your FPS will go from 40+ to 7 or less then back up. This has been like this since beta and continues on patch after patch. Lots of stuff added but the core stuff is being ignored. I guess they are thinking that if we add everything that the other mmo's are adding, that they might get more players.

Oh well, try the game. You might like it!. There are worst things that you could do with you time..... or is there?

"1) My first time in Crushbone. I zone in and see a shout for "Train"! I'm like, why is there a train in a fantasy game. I'm like, "Cool a Dark Elf!"
LOADING...."

Thank you for bringing back that wonderful memory about EQ. Never laughed so hard from a comment like that in a good long time.

Rise and Shiny recap: Alganon

Nice review Beau. As far as a FTP game goes. It is and it is not. Having played 2 chars to level 50 along with other alts. This whole superpak stuff is a nice remake of buying the game for $19.95.

You got nothing new or added if you had bought the game before the change to FTP or bought the client. I just find it funny that people are willing to buy the superpak now but go back a few months and they would not touch the game with a 10 foot cattle prod.

There does seem like alot of quests in the library and you can fill up the quest log fast. But after level 38 there is not alot of quests. And most of those are run here talk to this guy and that is it. Some are decent that take more then 5 minutes to complete but again some of those quests are broken and have been since beta and end the quest line there. Then it is grind grind to the next level to get a hand full of quest. Only to grind more and more to get even fewer quests.

True the game is still a very big work in process. And considering the number of people at QOL now. They are doing their best getting the bug fixes done. Along with re doing the network code that was so badly written that it should be a crime. Not sure if QOL is re doing code or another hired company is. At times you get some very bad lag spikes, you would think there are thousands of players online. But it is only you and 10 others.

The game graphics are ok in some times and stunning in other times. I can only blame Heavy Works Studios for going down the easy road with the char animations. QOL should have been on top of that company and sent the art back to them and had it done over again.

Is the game worth with the buying of the client..... or sorry the buying of the superpak?, Yes. Does it need work?, Yes. And it really really needs players in a bad way. Most nights it is still only 20 players to a server on.
