The Daily Grind: Have you been IP blocked?

Jul 28th 2011 8:11AM (Massively)
I just wrote about this on my blog today. I tried registering with Gamigo so that I could try Black Prophecy and couldn't because of an IP block.

The fact that SWTOR is doing the same thing to Oceanic players simple reduces my desire to buy their game at all. The Secret World is out soon anyway, so I might just wait for that.

The Daily Grind: What's your MMO guilty pleasure?

I know I'm gonna miss her. A tomato ate my sister.

The Daily Grind: When has an MMO creeped you out?

Oct 13th 2010 8:28AM (Massively)
I've never really been that creeped out by MMOs that much, I know it's happened but I can't remember when and where. But single player games, definitely more than a few. In particular Alien v Predator playing the Marine huddled in a dark corner hearing all these aliens lurking about while being low on ammo and too afraid to peek around the corner in case of extensible teeth.

And even with the correct spelling in the Wikipedia link, he still manages to spell it wrong. lmao.

Age of Conan loses two classes

"on the one hand, it could be because Funcom couldn't make them work, which doesn't say much for the game we all want to play"

I don't think it necessarily reflects badly on the game. Just because a single class (or two in this case) isn't working doesn't mean the rest of them are bad. In fact it's probably a good thing to remove something that isn't working from the game.

Blizzard are renowned for this. They've actually cancelled games rather than release something that's not fun.

If Funcom are taking this approach, rather than releasing a class that is someones pet idea or has popular support but isn't fun, then I have more confidence that AoC will be a good game.

The Daily Grind: Do the little things bother you?

Jan 15th 2008 8:40AM (Massively)
I'm not much of a raider, and I don't like grinding. It's really the quests that keep me going in MMOs. That and the social aspects of guilding.

Odd quests can be fun. It's when they are downright buggy, the quest rewards aren't given, or they're frustrating, that I stop doing them.

I'm finding that as I am not rushing through the levels anymore, that I am taking the time to read and get into the quests.

The Daily Grind: Comedy MMOs?

Jan 7th 2008 5:36AM (Massively)
Interesting concept, but fairly unachievable.

Comedy, more than anything else, is all about the timing. A master joke teller can get a chuckle from even the most well worn gag whereas even a brilliant joke can be ruined by poor telling.

I'm not sure how a MMO could achieve the timing necessary to do this.

And forget about comedy raiding. The thousandth taunting by those french taunters would wear a bit thin. You English Kiniggets.

Ni!

Ron Paul march in Azeroth

Hi Mike,

I answered this question on my blog at http://stroppsworld.com/2008/01/03/keep-your-reality-out-of-my-fantasy/
with a resounding NO.

I don't believe that real world politics belongs in a game at all. We need to think why we play these games in the first place. It's to have fun, right?

So why allow our games to be turned into campaign battlegrounds?

Mod chips soon in vogue Down Under

Dec 7th 2006 1:14AM (Joystiq)
Lex, KirbyMeister,

This is wonderful news. If the so called big boys decide to cut us off until we 'force' region coding, we'll just import all the first release movies and games from the US, Europe, and Japan and play them anyway. Besides, there is a big market here. The entertainment companies are not going to throw that income away.

No region coding means no restrictions on who we can get our games from.

Region coding is a great evil perpetrated against the consumer. This is a tremendous advance against it.

Disconnect in raid = teleport to hearthstone location

Sep 27th 2006 1:05AM (WoW)
I'm not sure that this bug has come in on the 1.12.1 patch. My guild were raiding AQ on Monday night Aussie time, which is Sunday night or early Monday US time, and the server started having hiccups. The whole raid was disconnected and a lot of them ended up at their hearth locations.

I suspect the best thing to do until this is figured out it to hearth close to the raid prior to going in.
