The Daily Grind: Should newbie rewards match veteran rewards?

Mar 3rd 2010 10:33AM (Massively)
I liked CoH's veteran reward system, it was a nice little "thank you" for supporting the game. I have no problem with an MMO dropping it's price after launch, but I think STO's mistake was dropping it so soon after launch (it's only been live a month) with the extra free time when that launch had been particularly rocky.

The Daily Grind: Feeling jaded on MMOs?

Mar 1st 2010 3:40PM (Massively)
Sorry if I repeat anyone else's comments, but here are my thoughts. I think part of the problem is that while it feels games in other genres have been steadily evolving, MMOs feel increasingly like an anachronism. Every new release feels like the last in a new skin.

Worse still, while other games are released at varying qualities, MMOs universally release bugged and incomplete. It used to be that we'd let it go because they have more content and the promise of future development. However, these days they seem to have similar content levels to solo games and are less technically sophisticated so one wonders why they aren't more polished.

I am hoping SW:TOR and APB move things along, there are encouraging signs, but I have been burned before.

Ginormous Star Trek Online beta patch is live

This is a big improvement on the state the game was in before. I would still like to see more (free) character slots added in to the final game.

Massively's Guide to the Character Traits of Star Trek Online

There are so many boggling decisions, the number of slots chief among them, that I have found myself going from ecstatic to wondering if I can get a refund. It's sad indictment of the game that the last few days I've found myself finding reasons not to play.
