I wouldn't mind a terrorbird or a komodo :)

The Daily Grind: Would you play a game for kids?

Jul 16th 2011 9:39AM (Massively)
As someone who plays AAA tier mmo's (mostly rift right now) sometimes its nice to go to something a bit more innocent. I'm kinda an addict of tower defense games, and Clone Wars has an extremely well crafted one that gets more difficult and complex as you get through it, Though personally I think SOE should of made the game more like freerealms then just a lobby to games. I also like Freerealms card game, I feel like the clone wars one is too dumbed down to be worth playing.

The Daily Grind: Does MMO magic need a revolution?

May 22nd 2011 7:59PM (Massively)
Sadly, the way things work, not just for mmo's, but all forms of business, innovation starts in the independent sector. :/ That's not to say no innovation comes from the big companies, DCUO and AoC both had some new ideas on how to do combat (both choosing to eleminate auto-attack and instead going for a more button-mashy approach), but we'll have to see wether this catches on or not.

The Daily Grind: Does MMO magic need a revolution?

Just because its a mechanic that hasn't really changed since Everquest (Possibly UO) doesn't mean that its being neglected and not evolving. Yes, there are some more interesting spell systems out there, but how easy would they be to implement, and how fun would they be to play? I don't think developers are willing to risk money on a spell system that "might be fun" in the interest of being different.

The Daily Grind: What stock fantasy tropes bore you to death?

May 18th 2011 12:35AM (Massively)
All I was saying was simply that I think the mechanic is over used and overly restrictive. I'm fine with games that let you change sides (with a bit of work ofcourse) But to say you're either faction a or faction b and the two absolotely do not get along no matter what is plain stupid, especially when neither side is really evil, just have philosophical differences. Look at games like Everquest 1 UO, and even Eve Online. None of these games have any sort of permanant faction restriction, and were/are extremely sucessful. Dividing the playerbase by permanent factions is taking the lazy way out, instead of building an instresting and shifting politial system/faction system, and telling a interesting story in the process.

I dislike that game developers feel the need to seperate the playerbase into two or more faction, and then saying, oh, you're this race, you have to be this faction ALWAYS. Personally I think its been overdone way to many times and I think its just an excuse to encourage PVP (another overused mechanic) instead of cooperation and socialization which is really what these games are about.

Week in Review: Sony Offline Entertainment

@Tempes Magus
It has more to do with the fact that it takes longer to develope a game for multiple systems, I would think. Most of the "multi-system" games that come out are crappy movie to game ports and the like.

The Guild Counsel: Is it time to merge?

Apr 28th 2011 11:13PM (Massively)
Never do a straight up merge. When we were short on raiders or some such, we would just make an alliance with another guild. Within about two weeks, something would happen that would cause that other guild to break up (usually their leader was an asshole) and since they had had a good friendly experience with us, they would all join up with us. This happened about three times over the coarse of two years, and for the most part after which we'd be able to raid with no outside help. Unfortunately people who lead a group of people from one guild are another are going to try it again sooner or later in an attempt to stroke their egos, and this can lead to the downfall with the guild if getting consistant numbers is a regular problem.

The Daily Grind: Do you trust MMO companies after the Sony debacle?

Apr 28th 2011 11:42AM (Massively)
I've only had my CC stolen once, after a decade of playing mmo's and using services like PSN. And the person who stole it was a waitress at a restaurant. We shouldn't be blaming Sony here, we should be blaming the hackers.

The Daily Grind: Do you care if players get free max-level characters?

Apr 24th 2011 9:20AM (Massively)
EQ2 has taken out most of the grind, though itemization needs serious updating from 20-70. I think the problen here is that they so far have not put in a dungeon finder or revamped any of the old dungeons, making soloing your only option.
