The Soapbox: Evolution of a class

Feb 7th 2012 2:30PM (Massively)
@(Unverified)

WoD is actually "class" based by the definition more akin to societal classes, as every clan or tribe has a particular background niche that ends up dividing characters just like a DnD class really. VTM moreso imo because one of its conceits is that vampires generally embrace humans who typify aspects of their clan, and that likewise the embraced become more like the clan due to blood inheritance.

In any case yes its not set in stone and anyone can be a "Drizzt" and make a character that goes against their blood and culture completely but still the "classes" are all there and generally people pick from them much the same as they would pick D&D classes.

woodcutting, because it requires killing something alive, even better when one turns out to be a dryad.

"if if if" ... there's never going to be a game so awesome that its worth more than 15$ a month, in fact its debatable if most games are even worth that much any more.

Behind the Mask: The real state of the game

I really agree that the current skill system needs to be revamped, for a good build needs a few more skill slots, and choices too often come down to essential vs. non-essential instead of FUN or what would fit my super-hero persona the best.

DDO 'prequel' update prepping community for the expansion

@Daemodand

When thinking back on it making an Ebeeron setting was a good idea, even if Eberron is dumb and it was a huge oversight to go that way when people already love Forgotten Realms and there's already a wealth of source material on that setting.

By going with Eberron though they ended up with a setting which they could basically do anything with because no one knows or gives a shit about it. So in the end they pretty much ran with it and turned out a ton of different adventure settings which embodied a more elemental D&D experience that doesn't take itself too seriously and everyone can enjoy.

The Daily Grind: When do you alt?

Jan 31st 2012 2:20PM (Massively)
I really hate making alts.

To me the fun of an MMO is making one character and that's me, that's my character, whenever I start making alts I feel like it breaks the immersion. If it gets to the point where I start playing an alt then its usually a sign that soon I won't be playing that game anymore.

The Daily Grind: How often do you want new abilities?

@Rheem

Its basically the same thing... instead of using one skill over and over again you are duplicating the same process just with more buttons. Besides, its not like you have six buttons that are all ice comet they essentially took one good spell and split it up in order to fill out the ability bar with more buttons to mash.

I guess this is related, but I really hate the schemes where you have to buy skills out of a tree.

Never really saw the point since people end up genericizing builds anyways until you get the same one or two best builds stickied in a forum for the rest of time. It wouldn't be so bad if the presented trees didn't usually have so many hit or miss skills, essentially making the whole idea of picking your own build meaningless.

Likewise in some games that use this system they seem to require you to sit on points so you can dump them into something better later then you end up grinding 52 levels using level 1 Jab that you got for free at the start of the game.

The Tattered Notebook: The significance of the update delay

@Khai mann @ eLdritchZ

hah, like actually playing a game makes you automatically qualified to understand whats right and wrong with a game. when 99% of the players who defend their games that are under fire are the blissfully ignorant people who spend all their time doing unimportant crap like doing nothing but crafting or rolling low level alts or socializing at the bank or just people who take forever to level or people who are just gonna quit in a few months anyways. basically the people who never experience whatever is wrong with the game because they never get there or they are not interested, they are just as qualified to judge a game as much as someone who doesn't play at all.
